Warmer Temperatures Prevail

The title of the post may be a bit deceptive, we may see warmer temps however the struggle to maintain a period of 80° or better over the next week is iffy at best.  The extended period of cloud cover and cooler temps with lots of rain seems to be embedded over Michigan.  If Grand Rapids does not get above 82° by Thursday we`ll set a record for the lowest high temperatures so far into a year. The lack of sunshine has had much to do with this – we have seen less than an hour of sun since Saturday.

As I stated yesterday, not much activity on the Lake Michigan shorelines as far as sunbathers or people walking around taking in the sites.  One does not want to get into the water without a wetsuit as the lake temps remain around 50°.

As of now today, Wednesday morning and Friday will be the best chances of seeing sunshine for any extended period of time this week.  The track of the next system is still unknown in regards to how much rain we will see in the Wednesday night/Thursday time frame.  With the latest models we are seeing a quarter to a half an inch of rain along the I94 corridor though it could move a bit northward – stay tuned…

This weekend still appears to have some active weather in the area though it will not be raining all the time there will be chances of storms in the area.  We still are on track on having better chances of slightly above normal temps over the next couple weeks as the cooler air moves west with a pattern chance, however the same period shows chances of above normal rainfall.

I’m maxed out on vacation time, so I burned 4 hours and took off at lunch. Just finished mowing. 75° feels really hot. I’m sweating up a storm.

This has been a rather cool June. Grand Rapids has seen two days this month with a top 5 coolest maximum temperature (June 16th with 62 and June 13th with 64) The mean so far this month is at 63.5 and that is good for a departure of -3.5° And as MV stated above if Grand Rapids dose not reach 83 before Thursday this will be the latest in the year that Grand Rapids has gone without getting that warm. The year that happened was 1924 and in 1924 Grand Rapids had the fewest 80 days of any year with… Read more »

Just beautiful up here yesterday and this morning. All sun yesterday and both Ludington and Pentwater beaches had a lot of people out. We all got fried and will have to limit our time in the sun today. Here’s a pic of the lake this morning, pretty rare to see it look like a sheet of glass, usually kind of windy up here:

Yet another mostly cloudy day here in Grand Rapids. So far GR has only had 5 mostly clear days this month. The temperature here at my house is now at 72 and it is 70 at the airport.

Only two clear days? NWS GRR shows 5 days in June already where total possible sunshine was 86% or greater. And another three where we had more sunshine than clouds. That’s pretty good for GR which is one of the cloudiest cities in the country.

Slim

The average sunshine for June in Grand Rapids is 61% I do not think Grand Rapids will end up anywhere near that this year. Yes from November to February Grand Rapids is one of the cloudiest cities in the country but June (62.1%) July (81.4%) and August (71.3%) and usually rather sunny. The lake shore even more so.
