I bet all those who want to go to the beach on the weekend are getting frustrated by the lack of sun, cool temps and cold lake waters. The beaches are sorely lacking of the crowds normally seen this time of year. There are a couple hardy fishermen out on the pier this morning and a boat heading out in South Haven. Waters are calm in Muskegon with nothing but clouds on the horizon.

Normal temps for this time of year are around 79° – we will remain below that norm until we get into the weekend when we might get to 80° by Sunday. We could see some peaks of much needed and wanted sunshine tomorrow and again on Friday, other than that our cloudy wet pattern continues in Southern Michigan. Next week may be a different story as the CPC is guessing chances of above normal temps for a welcome change…

Nice morning on the lake up here near Pentwater this morning. Sun is out with light winds, should be a perfect day for kayaking and riding the Seadoo. Shallow lake here so the water temp is not bad at all for mid June. I prefer this over the past couple years we’ve been here and it was so hot you couldn’t stand being out in the sun more than a short time.

It kind of surprised me as I thought it would be much colder there in the winter season. Note this town is on the coast and yes there are people that live there.

Yet another cloudy cool June day. So far this month has a mean temperature here at Grand Rapids of just 63.5° and yesterday for the 2nd time is just 5 days Grand Rapids had a top coldest maximum day. With yesterdays high of only 62 Grand Rapids had its 3rd coldest maximum for June 16th in recorded history with only 55 in 1974 and 61 in 1982 being colder. At this time it is cloudy and a cool 57 here at my house.

Fascinating article. Lots of sun and record high temps in the arctic have brought on record low ice and extreme melting which has influenced the jet stream and low pressure systems in the Midwest.
