We have a winter storm warning in place for Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo and Mecosta counties. Snowfall totals in these counties from the recent model data are guessing accumulations of 4 to 9 inches and a light glaze of ice.
There is a winter storm watch for Kalkaska, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona, Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon, Ogemaw, Iosco, Gladwin and Arenac counties. I am assuming this will be upgraded to a warning once the storm track and temperature become more apparent. The NWS is guessing five to ten inches of wet snow for these counties.
There is also a winter weather advisory for Muskegon, Montcalm and Isabella counties for mixed precipitation. These warnings and advisories don’t go into effect until later tonight so I won’t be surprised if things don’t get shuffled around a bit as the storm closes in on Michigan. We may even hear some thunder on Saturday.
This will be a wet system. We have been in an exceptionally dry period over the past couple of weeks with only a trace of rain and snow.

Even though I am upset the storm is missing us to the north, I’m thankful I am still healthy and haven’t yet gotten sick. And I hope Mark and his family feel better soon. I was initially upset yet another storm was going to miss us to the north until I put things into perspective.
We also have several months left of winter… so it will snow eventually.

The sun is now coming up and the current temperature is here is 30 the overnight low here was 28. After the first 10 days of December the mean at Grand Rapids is 35.1 that is now +2.9 above average. There has only been a trace of snow fall so far.
I looks like at this time most of SW Michigan will be just rain with the next system. And the one next week may be too far south.
