Here we are in the final month of Met fall which we could see our transition to snow any time. Time to get the mower deck off the tractor and put on the snow blade.
We had 3.59 inches of rain in October in Otsego, and 5.72 inches for fall thus far. Our high temp yesterday was 59° and the low was 51°. We ended up with .22 of an inch of rain yesterday.
We have a dense fog advisory in place for much of the area this morning which is set to expire at 11 am. Skies should clear out this afternoon and temps should rise into the low 60s. In fact, temps will be in the 60s for the rest of the week, we may even hit 70° Thursday and Friday! Enjoy this week, below average temps may start to creep into the state next week.
Forecast Discussion
- Fog This Morning and Wednesday Morning - Fog, some of which may be dense, will continue to impact the area until shortly after sunrise. We will continue to hold off on a dense fog advisory this morning given the increase in winds below 1000ft before 12z. These winds should help establish more efficient mixing, thus helping transition the shallow fog into a low stratus deck. Fog concerns will return tomorrow morning thanks to recent rainfall promoting elevated low level moisture, light winds, and clearing skies. - Warmer Than Normal Into This Weekend - High pressure will move into the area today resulting in dry weather with deep southwest flow. Dry conditions are expected with warmer than normal temperatures. An 850mb thermal ridge will support highs in the mid to upper 60s through Saturday, with highs even hitting as high as 70 Friday and Saturday. - Rain Returns Saturday Night Then Cooler - Deterministic models (GFS and Euro) seem more in line with weekend rain chances with the cold front arriving late Saturday night. Strong surface winds will be possible as this system moves through with models still showing 500mb winds over 100 knots. Several GFS and Euro ensemble members are signaling surface gusts over 40 mph Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Breaking news >>>>>>>all signs point towards a cold and snowy West MI winter! Bring it on!!!
If there’s so many signs, maybe you’d like to offer up some links or evidence for everyone here? I mean, that is the whole point of the blog.
Looks like the warm and sunny weather rolls on into November. Mowed the lawn today and it looks better than it has all year, thick and green, and yes there are dandelions poppy out again. Even better, the snow deficit is already growing. 4th year in a row below average?
It’s crazy how short winter has become in Michigan. A less than 3 month period produces 80% of our total winter output.
It seems like January and February, at least in recent years, are the 2 main winter months. Sometimes it filters into early March or December.
Yup. The past several family Christmas get togethers end up outside after dinner playing pickle ball or kan jam.
67 and sunny here. It’s nice to be able to have the windows open in November. It looks to be in the mid 60s to 70 for another week.
Check out the blue on the 8 to 14 day outlook is that the start of Winter?? Wouldn’t surprise me after the cool Fall we are having.. snow shovel is on the porch ready to go!! DDDDDDD INDY!!
Rock on!
Feels more like summer to start November. Warm and sunny, I love it!
It was another warm month as Detroit, Lansing, and Flint all finished above average temps.
A couple of thoughts: It was a very mild mid 50s during the trick or treating last night. Even so, the number of little ghouls and goblins was significantly lower this year. Not sure why.
It appears most areas were within one degree of average for the month of October. In my opinion, it was just an average month tempwise. Notably, GR rec’d nearly two inches more rain than Lansing.
Welcome to November! The last day of October was another mild day here in west Michigan. The official H/L at Grand Rapids was 59/49 there was officially 0.09” of rain fall and yesterday had 0% of possible sunshine. Here in MBY I recorded 0.02” of rain fall after 7 AM yesterday. The overnight low here in MBY fell to 44 before rising to the current temperature of 51. The official low looks to have been 50 at GRR. For today the average H/L is 54/37 the record high is 81 set in 1950. That is the latest high of 80… Read more »

GR temps were once again the joke of Southern Lower Michigan. I would urge you to look elsewhere like I have done.
