Welcome to meteorological fall

The kids are back in school and Labor day is this weekend so with a tear in my eye it is time to say good bye to meteorological summer. It is too early to have a summery of this summer that will come out in the next week or so.

That makes this a good time to see what is average and some records for the fall season here at Grand Rapids.

As we head into the Labor Day Weekend while the weather here in Michigan will be very good that will not be the case down in Florida where Hurricane Dorian will be a big issue. One storm I would not want to experience is a hurricane. So we will have to see how this plays out.

Here is a fall outlook by The Weather Company, Not sure how good their track record is and by looking at the outlook they seem to be on the Conservative side. Here is that outlook.

September.

Fall is expected to begin with above-average temperatures dominating the East Coast in September. This would be the second consecutive warmer than average September in the East. The best chance for a cooler-than-average start to fall is in parts of the northern and central Rockies as well as the adjacent Plains.

October.

Changes begin to appear in October as much of the Midwest and East see temperatures near or slightly below average. Warmer-than-average temperatures are most likely to occur in the Northwest during October.

November.

November’s forecast is shaping up to be similar to October with the greatest chance of near to slightly below-average temperatures in much of the Midwest and East. Above-average temperatures are forecast to become more expansive in the West. California, Arizona, much of Nevada, southern Utah and western New Mexico could see temperatures the furthest above average in November.

They did not provide a outlook for rain or snow fall.  We will see how this outlook plays out.

I hope everyone has a enjoyable Labor Day Weekend’

Thanks Slim – I noticed you mentioned the ‘S’ word a few times which I hope waits until late fall, like after Thanks giving. I have been enjoying the past couple weeks and don’t want to have to worry about putting away the summer stuff yet. To early to get Rocky all stoked up on winter.
I have a cool 46 degrees here in Otsego this morning….

Kp index was at 5 when I came to work but from my view there were some high clouds obscuring the Northern sky so no visible Northern Lights. Kp has now dropped to 4.
