Labor Day Weekend Forecast

Interesting light show in Allegan County last night after sunset.  Continuous lightning and strange thunders filled the sky and heavy rain fell after 10:30pm.  We received 1.29 inches of rain from the storm which passed through.  We haven’t seen the likes of this in several years.  We watched the lightning for about 30 minutes before we decided it would be safer inside.  Most of it was arcing across the sky.  I recorded the lightning with my digital HD camera, haven’t had time to transfer and edit it yet.  Almost looked like the second coming of Christ…

Rainfall totals are adding up now and with chances of rain coming Saturday night and Sunday morning we should be near to slightly above normal for the month in the Allegan county area.  Today, much of Saturday and Monday we should see plenty of sunshine with Sunday being the cloudy day of the long weekend.  Temps will be in the low to mid 70s for the period.

Enjoy your long weekend and be safe…..

Looks like fair weather for the weekend. Getting ready to head to the lake to celebrate the end of summer. Well my friends, I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Does anyone know anything about when this weekend we can see the northern lights?

Keep an eye on this page:

Anything going on they are usually on top of it. Watch the Kip index on the left side of the screen, if it gets to about 6 or higher we should be able to see them. Best guess now is sometime Saturday, hopefully not during the daylight hours.

And if the sky is clear. Try and find a darker location away from any cities and up north would also be better.

Thanks for your help. Is it possible to see them in the area here as long as it’s dark?

Hard to say because they can be quite variable with no solid way of predicting them. I’ve seen them dozens of times, although not a decent display in many years, and I’ve seen everything from a barely visible glow to over half of the sky brilliantly “blowing” in colors.

Thanks for the link and the info. Have a great weekend.

That was quite the light show last night. I haven’t seen that in a while.

ADA- we ended-up with 1.1 inches of rain overnight. My sister has a cottage in Grant. She stated that the lake was turning in a circle, as water came out of the lake and landed on the cottages. They decided to stand in the bathtub as the power went out, and branches came down. No damage, they enjoyed it as she is a hardcore weather fan 😉

Here at my house I recorded 0.47″ of rain. The lights went out for a few seconds but there were areas on and west of Alpine Ave that the power was out for a much longer time. Here the lightning was not that much but like others have reported to the south of here what a show last night. I guess better to witness from a distance then to have that overhead. Clear skies here and a temperature of 60° at this time.

MV, you are right about the lightning. It was cool watching it light up the sky & see the dark clouds as it lit the sky.

Awesome lightening show last night, especially the cell to our South later on. We were outside as well for a long time watching it, very cool the way it arced all over the sky. Of course we got skunked again with the rain, solid line except when it came over our area. A whopping 0.05”, didn’t even rain 10 minutes.
