Warmer & Drier than Normal

We are coming into a rather bland weather pattern through mid-month with above-normal temps and below-normal precipitation.  For northern Michigan, we have a 54% chance of above-normal temps and 40% for southern Michigan.  The U.P. will have a 44% chance of below-normal precip and 39% for lower Michigan.  Normal high temps for the southern lower would be around 30° and the U.P. would be in the low to mid-20s.  Keep in mind these are guesses and can change from day to day.

We have a chance of a few snow showers overnight with the passage of a cold front with amounts less than an inch.  The remainder of the week will feature more clouds than sun with fog at times from low inversion especially the night time hours.

Great news…..74 more days of the official winter season and a pattern change will arrive around mid month! Get ready for cold, wind, snow storms, lake effect snow, lake enhanced snow and real winter weather! Bring it on!

The official total seasonal snow fall so far at Grand Rapids is just 7.4″ at this point in the winter GR on average should have had 31.4″ so GR is now 23.5″ below average in the snow fall department. Grand Rapids on average would record 0.7″ of snow each day but that drops down to 0.6″ on January 20th

That means, snowfall wise, winter will be half over soon. It’s gone by fast!

With everything else going on around us I will take mild and boring weather. In fact mild and boring would be great from now till about June!

Boring weather for this week. Boring isn’t always a bad thing. Took the dog for a walk this morning. It is a mild 33 degrees out. Have a great day, friends.

Still more than 2 feet below average snowfall. No big cold and no big storms in sight for what should be the coldest and snowiest time of the year. I love it!

Not trying to step on Slim’s toes, but, GR has received only 2.1″ of snow for the first three days of 2021. Capital City Airport here has received 5.1″ of snow for the same time period.

Northern Kent county has seen a little over 4 inches this month so far!

And for the season so far GR 7.4″ Lansing 9.4″ and Muskegon 11.8″ here at my house I now have 4″ on the ground. I have gotten more snow here at my house then at the airport. At this time it is cloudy and 33 here.

Although I will say it does look like winter. Grey skies with a solid snow cover.
But yes, definitely a boring week weatherwise. I also took my dog for a walk before work and it felt mild and dry.
