Yesterday we had a high temp of 58° and a low of 30° with mostly sunny skies. A warm front will nudge into southwest Lower Michigan today, providing mild temperatures in the mid to upper 60s around Kalamazoo. Meanwhile cooler temperatures are expected north of I-96, with rain showers impacting areas near and north of U.S. Route 10. This will more than likely be our nicest day of the week as we see a more active weather pattern move in place for the rest of the week.
A rainy Monday is ahead for parts of northern Lower Michigan, as moisture interacts with a warm front. The heaviest swath of rain may see just under a half-inch of new rainfall in the next 24 hours. Some areas may see a little wintry mix at the start, and again later tonight as things cool off again.
Rain will develop from far west into south-central Upper Michigan this morning. The precipitation may begin as a mix of rain, snow and freezing rain. As a result, some icy spots may form on roads and sidewalks this morning. More rain, freezing rain and snow will develop tonight, mainly late, across much of west and central Upper Michigan.
Forecast Discussion
- Rain showers north of I-96 later today - Rain showers will develop from mid to late morning through this afternoon into tonight mainly north of I-96. The showers will develop as a result of moderate isentropic upglide and rather strong 850-700 mb frontogenetical forcing to the north of the warm front over far southern MI. Fcst thermal profiles look mild enough for plain rain for p-type. - Rain showers Tuesday/Wednesday - A low pressure system will move ne from the Plains states into our region for midweek and bring rain showers Tuesday (mainly late in the day/Tuesday night) through Wednesday. This looks like a prolonged period of showery wx given the slow movement of the system and ample gulf moisture that the system will tap. Convection is not expected due to lack of instability. Cumulative rainfall amounts on the order of an inch to inch and a half are probable for most of our area based on a consensus of latest ensemble qpf guidance. It is possible though that the persistent dry easterly flow may cause rainfall amounts to end up in the lower end of this range. - Freezing rain potential far NNE fcst area for midweek - Persistent e to ne sfc winds will result in shallow cold air in place over our northern/ne fcst area. This in conjunction with milder air aloft will result in potential for some fzra over our far nne fcst area Tue night and Wed night as sfc temps fall to near or just below freezing both nights. However daytime temps will be well above freezing and below freezing temps would only occur for a shorter duration nightly. Therefore significant impacts from fzra are not expected but we will continue to monitor for this potential closely. Some light mixed pcpn is probable on the back side of this departing system on Thursday as cold air advects in behind the departing low.
Tornado passed near Round Rock Texas close to one of my friends, but he’s fine. Definitely a lot of action in Texas today… Tomorrow looks active further east.

You can tell there is a front droped across lower Michigan. There is a 32-degree difference between Houghton Lake and KaZoo.
What, many stations in MI currently have temps in the 30’s! Incredible!
10 years ago today West Michigan was enjoying temps in the Mid-Upper 80’s as we were in our record breaking March warmth. It got to 87 degrees in GR ten years ago today. It was the warmest March temp ever and 40 degrees above average. I seen bill said Gun Lake was warm enough to swim in which is essentially unheard of in March. Here is a piece of the NWS discussion from that day: .SHORT TERM…(TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON) ISSUED AT 415 AM EDT WED MAR 21 2012 THE PRIMARY WX STORY IN THE SHORT TERM WILL CONTINUE TO… Read more »
For those that love looking back at weather from years past, here is the Storm Team 8 broadcast from March 20th, 2012. Check out the temperature futurecast. In the 70s still at midnight. Just remarkable. If you can’t tell I watch News 8. Even after moving east closer to Lansing we still requested Grand Rapids Channels. It’s what I grew up on.

Rain snow mix chances with cool temperatures in the low 40′ some highs even in the 30’s as far as the eye can see typical start of Spring in west Michigan…Is it May yet?? InDY
Thanks for the facts Indy! The warm weather fanatics have been off the charts trying to tell us it is a nice warm Spring! Delusion at its worst!
Well only 7 out of the 21 days in March have been below normal and we are currently 2 degrees above normal for temps for March as a whole. So, yes the facts would confirm that it has been a warm spring! But go ahead and keep spewing the cold weather crazy nonsense!
Wow, you really are desperate!
Desperate??? I’m loving this weather!!! You’re the one crying nonstop for tons more snow, that’s not coming!! Completely off your rocker!!
That is OK Andy, you just don’t get it!
Ooooookay???
The official high at Grand Rapids yesterday was 56 the official overnight low was 30. The overnight low here at my house was 31. At this time it is clear and 34 here. With 20 days of March 2022 in the record books the mean at Grand Rapids is 35.8 that is a departure of +2.1. The snow fall for March remains at 5.3″ and for the season it remains at 69.9″

Today will be our 7th day out of the last 8 in the 50’s and 60’s. We truly are getting spoiled with great warm weather!
Just last March today was the start of 4 days of highs in the mid 60’s to mid 70’s and from the 17th to the 31st the coldest high was just 47.
Slim
Last March was also very warm! We’ve had some great early springs lately.
Yesterday was a great March day the high here was 58 and with all of that sun if felt very nice. I did some yard work raking up some leaves left over from last fall. And I ran out the gas in the snow blower, boy there did not seem to be that much gas in the tank but it sure did take a long time for it to run out.

Nice day yesterday. Spent most of the day outside. Washed the cars and did some work around the outside of the house.
MSU played their hearts out, but Duke was much more talented and skilled. Rooting for Juwan and his kids. Villanova is really good but Blue can beat them.
Incredibly poor execution down the stretch. That’s on coaching. Like I said before, Izzo needs to go.
His benchwarming son, Steven, will be a senior next year. I think Tom will retire after next season.
I hope Izzo stays on for many more years! Great coach, great person and great for the community! Enough said!
You are wrong as usual! The difference in the game was the outstanding defense played by Duke, who also has better players on their team! Izzo is a Hall of Fame coach with a spectacular tournament record as well as a decades long stretch of making the tournament! He is one of the best coaches in the country and you say get rid of him! You have lost all credibility on sports as well as weather analysis!!! Get real!
