We had another beautiful day yesterday with a high temp of 72.7° after a morning low of 30.4°. Our crocuses are blooming, the robins are back and the birds are choosing their mates, all a sure sign of spring.
Today starts a period of a more gloomy active weather pattern. We have some light rain moving into the state from the southwest, the heavier rain is now beginning to move into the Chicago area at 6:00 am. It appears most of our area should see over an inch of rain through Thursday. Today we will see temps reach the low 50s, 20° cooler than yesterday in southern Michigan.
We should consider ourselves lucky as the U.P. has a winter weather advisory in place for freezing rain, sleet and heavy, wet snow. Snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches and a quarter-inch of freezing rain are possible.
Forecast Discussion
- Showery wx pattern today through Wednesday - Rain showers are forecast today through Wednesday as a low pressure system over the Plains states moves ne into our region for midweek. A batch of rain over much of central/southern IL early this morning will continue to move ne but should gradually dissipate as it tries to move into our area later this morning (due to the brisk dry easterly winds and low level drier air still in place initially). Nevertheless some scattered light rain showers will make it into our area this morning through mid afternoon. More widespread rain showers will come late today through Wednesday with deep moisture in place by then. Short to medium range guidance trends the past 24 hrs also look a little more favorable for scattered convection Wednesday due to a combination of lift moisture and weak instability and forcing from the llj. There is still a bit of potential for a brief period of -fzra early Wednesday morning over our extreme nne fcst area as temps briefly dip down to near/just below the freezing mark. However this would be of short duration with minimal impacts before temps rise back to above freezing by mid to late Wednesday morning. Overall guidance trends the past 24-48 hrs show less potential for -fzra up there. - Unsettled wx to continue late in the week - A light wintry mix of pcpn is expected on the back side of the departing low pressure system Thursday and Thursday night. Beyond that several clipper systems will continue to bring potential for a wintry mix of pcpn Friday through early next week. A colder airmass will move in as well and high temps by Sun/Mon will likely only reach the 30s across our area. GFS/ECMWF ensembles suggest we will have a long period of below normal temps from this weekend through most of next week.

Thanks Sandy.
Anyone with golf plans this week? Forget golf and head North for some awesome skiing!

Bring on the snow!

Glad that it’s north of us! It can snow all it wants up there!
More talking about weather hundreds of miles away. Yikes.
And still below average snow here! Lol!
Current wind chill in GR at 2 pm is 36 degrees! Mookie and Andy are trying to say it is a nice warm Spring day! Ya right! We are officially in a lousy weather pattern! Get used to it, because no change in sight! In fact it will be getting colder! Incredible!
Lol!! Your trolling is going nowhere! Not sure what you’re trying to do??? We’ve already told you multiple times this weather is fine. There is zero snow on the ground and temps have been in the 40’s and 50’s with even some 60’s! It’s acceptable end of March weather to me.
And still maybe an above average temp day? I love it!
Yeah, I am not sure what he’s expecting of us?? LOL!!! I don’t mind this weather one bit for late March.
Too funny!
Bring on the cool rains!! Gets the ground nice and saturated for morels next month!! This is some great March weather for growing!! And best of all ZERO snow!
The grass has definitely greened up the past few days. I’ve had some minor allergies… one reason I am in no rush for growing season!
By the way it looks like another potentially significant severe outbreak down south again today. Especially in Louisiana and western Alabama.
It sure looks and feels like rain anytime. I just came in from taking my dog out. The birds are singing loudly and very busy. My crocus are coming up along with a few others. Yesterday we put our potted geraniums out in the sun. They are all getting leaves on them. I can’t wait till they bloom.
Look at those low temps into the weekend! Wow, just wow!
Starting Wednesday get ready for cold, wet and windy weather! Below normal temps here we come!
The average highs are now in the upper 40’s to near 50 so yest highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s would be well below average. Average lows in the next week are around 30 give or take a degree or so. Lows in the mid 20’s or so would be below average.

Today should be GR’s 9th warm day in a row! Tomorrow should make an even 10.
What an amazing stretch of mild weather. As I said before, when we get close to March it’s like *poof* and winter is over lately.
I just got back from a nice long walk. I would not call it “warm” I would call it “not too cold” At the current time it is cloudy and 40 in my yard. Like I said not warm but for March it is not too cold either. Of course the average high for today is only 47 so the bar is not that high.

Wind chill in the mid 30’s in late March is definite cold!
Slim, you know full well “warm” in March means something very different than warm in January or July.
Ah rainy weather…good time to do a little spring cleaning inside .. lol.
That is true!! The way I look at it, as long as it isn’t snowing this time of year, I am very happy!!
Yesterday was another very nice March day. It looks like that will be the last one for a good while. The official high here in Grand Rapids was 62 it was a much warmer 73 at Kalamazoo but a much colder 40 at Traverse City. The overnight low here at my house was 39 at this time it is cloudy and 40.

Get ready for an absolutely lousy stretch of Early Spring weather! Cold and windy and occasionally wet! If you like wind chills in the 30’s and 20’s then you will love it. Andy will say it is not too bad and good golf weather! That is a totally ludicrous! Give me a snowstorm over this weather any day! What a joke!
