More sun, no rain, blah blah blah our continuous days of boring weather march on. We have had .57 of an inch of rain since May 9th in Otsego so yes, not much to talk about here.
We finally have some activity in the Atlantic Ocean with TS Bret with another storm forming behind him.
U.S.A and Global Events for June 20th:
1970: Nesbyen, Norway reached 96 degrees on this day, becoming the warmest temperature recorded in Norway.
2001: Large hail driven by strong thunderstorm winds raked Denver International and front-range airports. Wind gusting to 54 mph along with hail as large as 2 inches in diameter punched at least 14 thousand holes and cracks in the flat roofs of several buildings at Denver International Airport. Also, 93 planes and hundreds of cars were damaged. About 100 flights had to be canceled stranding 1500 travelers. The Airport was completely shut down for about 20 minutes. The storm also damaged ground avoidance radar used to track planes on the ground to prevent collisions. Damage was estimated at 10 million dollars not counting the cost to the 93 airliners. The storm moved south and struck Watkins Colorado with hail as large as 2 1/2 inches in diameter and winds gusting to 60 mph.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Wednesday) Issued at 257 AM EDT Tue Jun 20 2023 The persistent dry easterly flow between a Canadian anticyclone and a SE CONUS cyclone continues today, with a slight twist; enough moisture is moving in from the northern periphery of the low to bring a slight chance of afternoon showers across at least the southeast forecast area. We will add 15 to 20 percent POPs in that area to match up with what some of the hi-res short range models are showing and to match the current NWS DTX forecast bordering our CWA. Model soundings have been showing the potential for isolated afternoon showers there for several runs in a row now. Otherwise, we will continue to monitor fire weather concerns today and Wednesday as the RH is expected to bottom out between 25 to 30 percent in the afternoon each day with east winds 10 to 20 mph. .LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Monday) Issued at 244 AM EDT Tue Jun 20 2023 The first part of the extended period will look much the same as we`ve seen for the past couple of weeks...hot and dry. ECMWF and GFS agree ridging aloft and at the surface will persist through Saturday. A few of the ECMWF ensemble members show some light pcpn Friday night due to a few showers moving in from the southeast around a low over the TN valley. Not totally sold on that idea yet as the ensembles that do show pcpn only produce a couple of hundredths QPF. What`s more likely is an increase in cloudiness Saturday and perhaps a few sprinkles at night. The models do advertise a brief pattern changes toward the end of the weekend and early next week. A seasonably strong short wave moving east across the northern portion of the country is progd to deepen as it approaches the Great Lakes. Southwest flow ahead of it will draw moisture northward from the Gulf via Texas and move it toward the state. Instability from the low coupled with the arriving moisture should finally produce some light rain/thunderstorms late in the weekend and early next week. ECMWF ensemble mean pcpn is nearing a half inch with several members over an inch; anything at this point would be very welcome.
