All time state records

I took a look at the all-time state records, and I was kind of surprised to see some odd results. Well at least here in Michigan. It has been reported for as long as I can remember that Mio held the all time Michigan hottest record of 112 on July 13, 1936. Well now according to the NOAA site that high of 112 has moved to Stanwood on the same date. The record low of -51 is (as had always been the case) is reported on February 9th 1934  at Vanderbilt. Here is one that really don’t make much sense as there is a reported record amount of snow on the ground of 117” at Eagle Harbor from January 27 to the 31 1948. Why I find that hard to believe is that 1. Eagle Harbor is right on the lake shore and in the Keweenaw peninsula the heaviest snow falls in the hills in the middle of the peninsula. And 2 the winter of 1947/48 was one of the least snowy winters in Michigan with just 73.1” at Marquette and just 55.0 at Gaylord. In the book “Michigan Weather” written in 1995 the most snow on the ground in Michigan was 80” at the Marquette airport on February 16, 1971 and the most snow fall for a winter season is 391.9” in the winter of 1978/79 and the most in one month of 129.3” in December 1989. At Delaware (about 15 miles to the east of Eagle Harbor in the hills. According to the NOAA site the most rain in a 24 hour period was 12.92” at Fountain witch is in Mason county. The NOAA site has the biggest 24 hour snow fall as 32” at Herman on December 2nd 1985. In that book Michigan Weather there is a report of 33.5” in Baldwin on November 30, 1960.  I am not saying that those records are not accurate but I just have to say I am taking some of them with a grain of salt.

Update on the above records site. Seems that NOAA has updated it site and now has both Mio and Stanwood as setting that record high of 112. However they still claim that the most snow on the ground was at Eagle Harbor.
