Sunny Again Today

The next several days will feature high temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s with low humidity. Fire danger will be elevated today, especially near and east of Highway 131, due to gusty west winds and very dry conditions. Our next good chance of rain is Saturday night into early Sunday.  Cooler than normal temperatures are expected through the middle of next week.

Forecast Discussion

- Quiet Today with Some Fire Weather Concerns -

Conditions will stay quiet through today as high pressure moves in
and fully takes hold. Temperatures will touch into the low to mid
70s with lower dewpoints in the 30s to 40s. Meanwhile effective
mixing this afternoon will support gusty winds mixing down to the
surface. Gusts during the afternoon may peak near 25 to 30 mph at
times.

Overall conditions will be comfortable today, but fire weather
concerns are present this afternoon with sufficient gusts in
addition to afternoon RH`s near 25 percent and temps nearing 75.

- Rain Chances Saturday Through Monday -

High pressure slides east and a developing warm front will lift
north as it interacts with a wave ejecting out of the Rockies.
Moisture will be fairly starved at the onset as Gulf Moisture is
absorbed by a tropical system moving through Florida. A few showers
will begin Saturday evening as a weaker low level jet noses into the
area. Prolonged rain chances last through Sunday and into Monday as
the front remains fairly stationary and additional shortwave
energy spurts move along the front. A few storms will be possible
mainly Sunday afternoon.

The warm front will stay put through the first half of Monday before
a more organized system moves into Lower Michigan Monday afternoon.
At this point rain chances will increase before the system moves
east by Monday evening.

- Rain Chances Wednesday into Thursday -

Weak high pressure slides back into the region Tuesday with quiet
weather expected. General troughing over the northern Great Lakes
will continue with a weaker shortwave diving into the area
Wednesday. This will increase precip chances Wednesday into Thursday
but uncertainty remains.

Nice afternoon temp wise. Not a big fan of the wind. Getting the garage set for our garage sale tomorrow

I can’t ask for a nicer day. Cool morning and 78 now. Very low humidity and not a cloud in the sky.

Slim

Yes, it is a very nice day. Lots of sun and mild temperatures. It is now 77 here.

Yea I just went for a bike ride. While it is boring (no storms, etc), I definitely am enjoying the 70s and sun.

IMO sun is more important than warmth. 60 and sun > 80 and clouds… but I’m sure ppl have differing views on this

It’s a really nice day. However as I’ve stated before i enjoy the 80s the best with the scattered period of humidity and some good storms.

There is a frost adversary in central lower Michigan for tonight. Just goes to show you just how “short” summers really are in parts of Michigan. Also there is a Tropical Storm Warning for much of southern Florida. The sky has now cleared here and it is sunny and 62 at this time.

Southern Lower MI summers are pretty long. The growing season of Detroit is almost a full 2 months longer than Denver and Boise and Syracuse, New York. And longer than Salt Lake City and Milwaukee as well.

Slim

None of the locations you have mentioned have a growing season that is 2 months shorter than Detroit. Remember Detroit has the longest growing season in Michigan. First off Denver has a altitude of 5280 feet. Salt Lake City 4226. Boise is at 2730 feet Detroit is at 656 Grand Rapids is at 650. So that makes the cities colder than Michigan due to their altitude. So just how long is the average growing season at Denver 153 days at Salt Lake City 163. At Syracuse 168, At Milwaukee 177 days, At Boise 137. Now at Detroit its 174 At… Read more »

I never said any of the cities had longer growing seasons than Detroit. That was my point LOL Detroit’s growing season is longer than all of those, surprisingly. And often, by a lot. How much longer? That depends where you look. I get my data from Climate Compare that uses % chance of non-freezing temps based on the averages. You can see it if you scroll down here:

Slim

No, you stated that Detroit has a growing season that is almost 2 months longer that Denver, Boise and Syracuse. That is incorrect. Your are comparing Detroit to Denver. Denver has a altitude of over 5000 feet thus has a colder climate.

Frost advisory for June how crazy is that? Well kind of the way Spring has been on going colder then normal right into Summer…
InDzy

Slim

Not sure if that frost advisory will pan out. But the fact is frost in the interior of Northern Lower Michigan happen. In fact there have been frost in every month in parts of norther lower Michigan.

To keep it in perspective, the record lows for those areas are sub-freezing so while uncommon, those temps are not unheard of.

Mookie
Mookie

Precisely why growing seasons are shorter up north than they are here.

Slim

At Oxford just north of Detroit the average growing season is around 144 days. Once one gets out of the heat island of the cities in Michigan the growing season gets shorter.

You are the most passive aggressive person I’ve ever met LOL I’ve seen you’ve talked about differing locations from my posts multiple times now. Completely off topic and always when I say something you don’t 100% like.

For what was called only a “two day warmup” by some on here, we have now gone 9 days where the average daily temp has been between -2 below to +14 above (with most of those being warm days).

Sunny and 74 again today. What could be better?

Slim

The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 74/55 the mean for the day was at average. There was no rain fall and there was 86% of possible sunshine. The overnight low both here at my house and officially at GRR was 50. At this time with clouds overhead and clear skies to the NW it is 57. For today the average H/L is 76/55 the record high of 96 was set in 1934 the record low of 38 was set in several years with the last time being 1986. Last year the H/L was 85/51. Our furnace hasn’t been on in over a month. Our house is well insulated. I slept like a champ with the windows open.

Love. This. Weather.

Slim

I have not had the heat on for a while but then again I have not had the AC on that much either. We are now have “don’t have to” weather. At this time the rest of the month looks to be cool so I guess one could say “short summer”
Slim

I love the don’t have to weather in the summer and fall. We run ac when the pollen count is high and can’t really open windows. 😉
