Snow Showers – Storm Totals

We had a brief snow shower in Otsego yesterday which produced a trace of snow.  We reach a high of 38° and a low of 29°.  Unless we have a major snowstorm we will end up well below normal in the snowfall department for December in SW Michigan.  This week will remain cool and uneventful with a warming trend coming along Friday into the weekend.

Below are the stats for the storm which passed through Friday and Saturday:

While there is no snow here in the metro Grand Rapids area you do not have to go too far north before there is snow. We went to Ludington today and even before you leave Kent County there is snow on the ground. Along US 10 there is about 3 to 5″ of snow on the ground. And about 3″ in Ludington. At this time it is a rather cold (for this winter so far) 24 here.

CPC outlooks through about the end of the year show pretty much most of the country including our area in the red. What a start for the first month of met Winter with pretty much zero snow! Only 2 months left and it’s over already.

Don’t forget about the CPC outlook for winter! Normal temps with above normal precip and snowfall! Get ready to rock! Who would have thought?

Bring on Winter and all the cold and snow! It will be a wild January, February and March! Bring it!

A snowy March is not super common in GR. The snowiest March the last 4 years was only 8″ of snow.

That means, we may only be down to two snowy months (or less) this winter.

Just think in about one week winter will actually begin! The best season will be rocking and we will be getting hammered this winter! Mark it down and get ready to rock n roll!

By the time winter “officially” starts in GR, about 30% of our total snowfall has already fallen.

The official total seasonal snow fall at Grand Rapids remains at 0.4″ that is now 14.8″ below average as of this date. Most of this week looks to be dry and thus snowless. There was a trace of snow fall here at my house overnight. At the current time it is cloudy and 29 here.

Only one below average day the entire month of December so far. Pretty soon, GR will be a foot and a half below average snowfall. We are now less than a week away until the days start getting longer into spring.

I love short winters!
