Another Quiet Week Ahead

After a wet system finally has exited Michigan another state of tranquility is in store for the week.  Models are not looking good for snow on the ground in SW Michigan for Christmas or any exceptionally cold air for that matter.

We had 1.90 inches of rain from the Friday night/Saturday system.  Had it been snow with the high moisture content we would have seen around nine inches of wet heavy snow, something I wouldn’t have liked to shovel.  I am still thinking of a back-loaded winter that will cut into our normal seasonal snowfall.  The next storm system will pass well to our south given model data today.

Normal temps for the week are near the mid-30s, we will more than likely be near or slightly below normal before temps rise again to near 40 by the weekend when we will have a 70% chance of above-normal temps through the 26th.

Ended up with 1.91” of rain here and nothing but a few wet flakes of snow at the end which amounted to nothing. Looks like most of the forecasts were right on, and yes even Rockys was on target. We will have to wait till tomorrow to see if Indys prediction of going above average in the snow department by Monday is accurate. Of course that would mean we have to receive about 16 inches of snow in the next 12 hours. Not so sure that will happen.

Grand Rapids and Muskegon seasonal snow fall is now over 14″ below average. So far this season Grand Rapids total snow fall is just 0.4″ while at Detroit they have recorded 6″ and they are +1.6″ As you can see there has not been much in the way of snow fall so far this winter season.

Yes the RDB is off to a rip roaring start! Now all we need is a snowstorm!

There looks to be around 4 to 7″ of snow on the ground in northern lower Michigan. The reported snow fall at Alpena was 13.7″ and at Houghton Lake 7″. The rain did end as a period of snow here at my house and I had enough to cover the roofs of the houses and on cars. This AM there is still a little on the SUV that I park outside. It is cloudy and 31 here at this time.
