Rainy Day

With free will, we all have our own opinions.  I have found in my many years on earth that most of the time it is best to keep my opinion to myself, especially in this politically correct age we live in today.  I have found that kindness goes a long way in my daily travels.  I have disclosed that this blog is my house and any who enter here should treat each other with respect and follow the house rules.  All opinions should be based on facts backed by data.  Current conditions at your location, historical data, rainfall totals, temps, etc are what we want to see here.  With this data, we can look back over the past several years to see what happened historically at your location.  In the past, I have blocked posters with hopes that they would change their rhetoric to be respectful and keep their posts weather-related.

If you all remember what the moderators of Bills Blog did when things got out of hand they shut down the commentary. I don’t want to go that route, however, the warning is out there so keep it in mind.  As I advance through my retirement years there will come a time when I will want to hand this site over to a younger person who will keep it going through another generation which may be sooner than later.

Yesterday was a cloudy cool day with a high of 53° and a low of 44°.  I have 49° at 6 am here in Otsego.

Widespread rain is expected this morning as a low-pressure system approaches from the south. The rain will become scattered this afternoon and gradually end across the area tonight. Highs will top out below normal once again today in the 50s. A northeast wind of 10 to 20 mph will make it feel even cooler.  Rainfall totals should be in the .5 to 1-inch range.  Our best day this week will be tomorrow with promises of mostly sunny skies with temps in the low 60s.

Forecast Discussion

...Rain today and perhaps Friday...

Regional radar shows a large area of rain associated with a low over
Missouri moving toward Lower Michigan. This low has been well
forecasted by the models for several days and we`ll see quite a bit
of rain today. Due to the rain and clouds temperatures won`t move
much and highs in the lower to mid 50s will be about as high as
we`ll see.

Strong pressure advection on the isentropic surfaces will result in
a quick saturation and precipitation development early this morning.
We`ll see rain much of the day as the low moves through and then the
upper short wave. Instability is low and so this will be mainly a
rain event. Isolated storms that do develop will be along/south of I-
94. We`ll be on the back side of the low by this evening and the
rain will end. High pressure quickly noses in from the north and we
should see quite a bit of sunshine Wednesday.

The next system Thursday night and Friday will follow a similar
track as the one today. However, there has been a slight trend to
the south with the track and qpf isn`t as high as it was a day or
two ago.

...Warmer over the weekend and beyond...

Once the Friday system moves through a large ridge is progd to
develop over the Mississippi Valley. This will push warmer air into
the Great Lakes and we`ll see high temperatures climb well into the
60s Saturday and around 70 Sunday. A blocking pattern then develops
with the ridge in place which will send temperatures well into the
70s next week with 80s also possible mid week.

You’re colder than Traverse City and Sault Ste. Marie. It’s 53 here. The difference between our areas in the past month is remarkable.

Looks to me that today is the last really chilly day. Starting tomorrow highs are in the 60s+ with even some 80s possible next week. The leaves and flowers will surely be popping by this time next week! (Allergies will likely worsen next week FYI)

I don’t care what it does this week. Summer starts next week, and I’m so excited! A little earlier than last year too!

My lawn is loving this weather.

I bought a new lawnmower this year. The 1st self propelled that I have ever had. The old one had rust holes in the deck and last year when I changed the blades I had to hammer on a universal blade. Anyway the old one still runs so I am keeping it for a while as my youngest son just bought a house and will need a grass cutter. He wants a electric one but still has not bought one yet.

The new EGO Z6 electric zero turn riding mower can mow up to two acres on a single charge. The technology is amazing and is getter better/greater by the day.

Yesterdays official H/L at Grand Rapids was 51/46. The overnight low here was 46, So far the rain has held off and at the current time it is cloudy and 48 here at my house. The rain is now just to the SW so it will be here shortly and it looks to be here for a while. Looking ahead it looks like we will soon end this cold wet pattern and maybe slide right into a warmer pattern. I have not done much prep for the garden yet as I have had some back issues that now seem to… Read more »

Perhaps this weather pattern was a blessing in disguise – allow your back to recoup)?
