Most areas received some much-needed rain yesterday and overnight. We got .28 of an inch in Otsego which brings us to .71 for the month, not much but it is a start. Low pressure will bring us showers and scattered thunderstorms today with showers lingering into Tuesday. It will be cool today and Tuesday with highs in the 60s and lower 70s. We may see a stronger system move in towards the end of the week.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Tuesday) Issued at 300 AM EDT Mon Jun 26 2023 Mid level water vapor imagery reveals a well defined upper low traversing southern Lower Michigan early this morning. Both the low and mid level water vapor channels also show an advection of moisture wrapping around the northwest quadrant of the low pressure system, heading toward western Lower Michigan. As this moves overhead coincident with diurnal heating, an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity is expected. MUCAPE values of a few hundred J/kg are likely later this morning into the afternoon hours away from the coastal counties. Thus, a few diurnally driven thunderstorms may occur, but no severe weather is expected. That said, wouldn`t be surprised to see some small hail fall out of some of the storms today. Coverage of showers is likely to be fairly extensive across the region, with some locations picking up additional beneficial rain today. HREF 24 hr LPMM is showing potential for 0.25"-0.75" especially from I-96 to I-94. Combined with cool temperatures and very low dew point depressions, this will result in minimal evaporation of whatever falls today, helping the top level soil moisture levels. Still, these amounts really will only make a small dent in the overall drought the region is experiencing given our large precipitation departures of many inches over the last couple months. Speaking of those temperatures, most locations west of a Big Rapids to Battle Creek line will see high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s today. Where showers are more frequent, expect temperatures to often be held in the low 60s or perhaps even down to 60 or so especially across our lakeshore counties. Combined with a NW breeze, and today will be chilly for many locations. The highest gusts should occur near the lakeshore, with 30 mph possible. Rain coverage diminishes tonight and should end for most areas by early Tuesday morning as the low pressure system peels away. However, locations near and east of US 127 could see additional diurnally driven showers into Tuesday afternoon before ending. .LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Sunday) Issued at 300 AM EDT Mon Jun 26 2023 The upper trough will be moving away from the state Tuesday night and that will be followed by a brief period of ridging and corresponding dry weather Wednesday into Thursday. Rain chances increase again late Thursday into Friday and that will carry through the weekend. Another upper trough swings south from Canada Thursday and induces low pressure over the upper MS Valley. This surface low then rides the ridge to the south and into Michigan. The CMC has the most robust solution and shows the potential for heavy rainfall Friday. The ECMWF and GFS are not as ambitious with the rain as the CMC, but they do show the low moving across the state. So, confidence is beginning to increase that we`ll receive some more beneficial rainfall. Also, precipitable water values are progd to increase to nearly 2 inches by the weekend on the heels of a 30 kt LLJ ahead of the low. We`ll have to watch for some strong storms too. LI`s fall to around -5c Friday and lift will be aided by the approaching low and the right entrance region of the upper jet. It`s early yet and we`ll see how the models play out by the end of the week. The trough doesn`t move out until Monday, so PoPs will be in the forecast through the weekend.
There is either a thick smoke or fog outside currently. I think it may be smoke… this is the most so far if that’s the case
Just checked the rain gauge and my 24 hr rain total is a whopping 2.1 inches! Incredible amount of rain and no drought up here! I love it!
Just checking my backyard out the yellow grass is gone amazing what a good steady rain can do im I am going to have a beautiful fire this weekend long overdue… INDY
We’ve received just over half of an inch of rain. No where near a drought buster but better than nothing. Up to a damp and humid 71 degrees, how do some think that is now cold?!
There’s been some comments about all the 90 degree days already. It’s a ways out, but my weather app is showing 90 or better for 6 days in a row starting July 4th. That would bring the total here up to 15 with the hottest time of the year still coming.
Rain showers and temperatures in the 60’s reminds me of October I will take it for the hottest part of the year cant wait to burn a big fire this weekend woo woo ….INDY
Rock on Indy – cool and the drought is over in our part of Kent County! Boy have we had a lot of near to below normal temp days this Spring and summer! Incredible pattern!
After a flop for rain yesterday, at least some is lightly falling at my house and has been for some time on and off this late morning and afternoon. I’ll take it.
We’ve been getting decent showers on and off today. I hope it continues. 🤞
Just looked at my rain gauge and I have 0.14″ of rain fall since 7 AM. It is cloudy with sprinkles and 67 here at this time.

What a difference. I have picked up .8 inches today and 1.2 yesterday and counting! Incredible rainfall here!
My house has got a total (yesterday and today so far) of 0.4”. 3x as much today as yesterday, but still a far cry from Rocky’s 2”. Haha
Better than nothing!!
Incredible rain totals up here in Northern Rockford! 2 inches and counting!!!!!!!
I received .43 of rain so far here in Comstock Park. Much needed and looking for more.
I see GR may be heading to another near to below normal temp month! What a cool pattern!
We are getting pummeled with rain as we speak!
I see GR has already had eight 90+ days already.
Three days into summer and we’ve already reached our seasonal average for 90-degree days. Temperature wise, spring was above average for Lansing and GR. It is likely that summer will follow suit.
While we have had several sunny hot days, it hasn’t been humid so far and we have had a lot of “cool” days mixed in. I think GR will still end below average for the month
Three days into summer and we are already seeing a stretch of below normal temps! Wow!
The official H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 85/64 there was officially 0.23” of rain fall and the sun was out a reported 17% of the time. For today the official H/L is 82/61 the record high of 94 was set in 1941 and the record low of 43 was set in 1902.

It looks like here in MBY I received one of the heaviest rain fall amounts in much of the area. The official total at Grand Rapids was just 0.23” but here in my yard I received 0.71” of rain fall in two separate heavy showers. Note I did not say thunderstorms because there was no thunder here. In Kent county the rain fall amounts ranged looks to have ranged from that official reading of 0.23” up to 0.89” There was a report of 1.51” to the west of me.

I do not have a rain gauge, but we have definitely gotten more than 0.23” here. The storms must be pretty localized.
But we are still several inches below average since April. We need several more rain events to get out of the drought
I am up to 1.5 inches! Northern Kent County has been hammered with rain! Wow, just wow, Wow!
Wait till you see the official rain totals! Some areas will be near 2 inches!!!! Incredible!
There looks to be a good chance of some more rain today. If it fails to reach 70 today it will be only the 8th time that it has not reached 70 on any June 26th in Grand Rapids history going back to 1893.
