This is fine weather if one is a duck – we are definitely making up for any deficits we have had this year. The rainfall total here at the station is 1.33 inches from our current weather system. Total for the month is 5.06″ and for the season is 7.25″.
Yesterday’s high was 48° the low was 31.5°.
We will continue with the rain today with some gusty winds to add to the mix. The heaviest rainfall will continue to be south of Grand Rapids.
Forecast Discussion
Report of wind damage with several trees down in the South Haven area around 0515 UTC. This appears to be associated with ducted gravity waves bringing environmental winds around 45 knots to the surface. The waves may have originated from convection along the warm conveyer belt feature over Illinois. Periods of high winds remain possible across southern Lower Michigan as this convection continues east across Indiana early this morning. Surface low tracks just south of Lower Michigan today with area of mid level f-gen pivoting across our forecast area. This will keep the steady rain going into the afternoon. Rain should taper off this evening as the low moves east and drying and subsidence on the back side of the low moves in. Fair weather with shortwave ridging prevails for Tuesday and Wednesday then another low approaches from the south bringing rain on Thursday into the weekend as the upper trough cuts off and spins across Ohio and into Pennsylvania by Sunday.
There is still some color up in Houghton

Thanks.
With rain still falling it is still a cool 45 here. This could be one of the coldest highs for any October 25th depending on how warm it gets when the rain stops.

43* out on my area very cold and raw outside mater in fact the wind has picked up now feels even colder crazzy though one of the ccoldest October 24th ever now thats amazing but whoes complaining not ….InDY ..
Still raining outside holy toledo could you imagine if this was all snow …Crazy …Who knew ?? InDY….
As some have noted, we should have had some snowflakes by now. And most certainly a frost too. We are still +6.9 degrees above average for October.
I rather have snowflakes in May like the last few years snow in the Slring priceless around here lol …InDY…
The average date at Grand Rapids for 0.1″ of snow fall is November 8th. As for October snowflakes there have been a total of 36 years where a trace or more has fallen in October and 54 years where no snow was reported. And with lows of 32 and 31 reported at Grand Rapids, Holland, Lansing and Kalamazoo reported officially those locations have reached at freezing point this year. But yes we are still at +6.9 for October but that will change over the next 6 days and while the month looks to end up well above average it will… Read more »
Slim with the facts again….Seems like we get more snow in April and May then October lately…October such a transition month ..InDY ….
I am reaching the point of the year when I start getting “snow fever” (if that is a real thing). I always enjoy snowy Novembers because we can get lots of lake effect snow. Hopefully there is a pattern change in the next few weeks!
Interesting stat for all the cold weather nonsense…..we are already BELOW average in the snowfall department for this season. How can this be?

Wow, the pattern is definitely entrenched in a wet pattern and now colder! I have had three mornings with frost already! Wow, just incredible, considering some on here keep spewing warm weather fantasies!
So far in this rain event I have recorded 0.74″ of rain fall. The mean for October at Grand Rapids is now down to 59.7 so while the month should end up well above average it will NOT be a record warm October at GR. While the official low at GRR made it down to 31 it has not gotten that cold here at my house yet as the coldest it has been is 35. So how does that official low of 31 stack up for Grand Rapids? Well it was just in 2017 when the first low of 32… Read more »
Soggy day indeed. My college kids are home until tomorrow for break. Probably do some pumpkin carving and then binge watch on netflix… Hoping for a good storm to come across west Mi so I can get out and photograph some 12 footers slamming into the light houses!
Well no frost again last night. Now the question will be how late in the year will it be? Keep the mowers fired up, the grass is growing like crazy.
46 here when I woke up. Good thing I mowed this weekend. Super soggy out now.
While we both may have not had a frost the official lows in the area would say otherwise. So in the history books it will go down as October 24th 2021.
