We are in the marginal risk area for severe storms mainly late this afternoon into the evening. The greatest risk would be for damaging wind and hail (5% chance).
Any storm development should be between 4pm until sunset. I am not seeing a lot of rain with this frontal passage – less than a quarter inch unless of course there is storm development.
Today will be warm with highs in the low 80s. As we get into the Labor Day weekend temps will be in the low to mid 70s with chances of showers on Saturday through early Sunday morning. Labor Day looks to be pleasant with highs near 80°.
The outlook through September 11th is guessing a 40% chance of below normal temps and near equal chances of rain. Normal high/low temps are 75/53 respectively.
Above is the expected track of hurricane Dorian as it strengthens in the Atlantic and is predicted to run over Florida and perhaps on into the gulf early next week. It could be a cat three hurricane as it approaches Florida….
Fyi… there was a big barn fire in Martin…please keep all in prayers. Hopefully rain helps extinguish it.
Here at my house I recorded 0.47″ of rain. There is a ton of lightning to my south, Here I did not have that much lightning just a few and and some thunder. Parts of Alpine are without power at this time.

Thunderstorm warning for Allegan Co. – almost continuous lightning heading for Allegan – Otsego – Plainwell
Yeah…sky is on “constant flash” 🙂
It sure is. Weird thunder too.
Incredible lighting show all around, but as expected the line has split right over us and I doubt we’ll even get a drop of rain.
Had some lightning and thunder and very dark clouds and 0.47″ of rain. But boy there is a lot of lightning to the south at this time.

Great night! Biked over to a high spot and watched the line move to the East, from my spot. Sections dropping, rising, rain shafts, probably cold air funnels here and there. The entire horizon was my movie screen 😉 It slowly started creeping in on my left, and behind, as I peddled back home just before the heavy rain. This is probably the end of our season…here’s to 2020.
Sky is very dark to the north now still no rain here yet but boy that sky is the darkest it has been in a long time. Still a mild 78 here at my house.

ADA – as far as Ada is ever considered, this can be summed into one phrase…”not our weather…again”
Anyone have a good lightning link? Seem to have lost the one I used before.
Might not be a good one but here is one that I have used off and on

Thanks! Haven’t used the one I had in so long I lost it.
The threat for strong to severe storms continues this evening. The
line of storms is near Muskegon to Ravan to Greenville. The
location of the western most cell in the line was near shore south
of Manitowoc Wisconsin at 4 pm, but now the western most cells
are developing within 30 miles of the West Michigan shore of
Muskegon. The core of low level jet has moved inland and the area
where the 0 to 1km shear, which is near 30 knot. Even so all of
our high resolution models show an increase in most unstable cape
as the line reaches near Holland and slowly continues south to
South Haven. So we expect the threat for locally severe wind gusts
and large hail to continue west of of US-131. It should be noted
rainfall amounts of up to 1.3 inches near Bridgeton, with most of
southern Newaygo and northern Muskegon County have had between
.75 and 1.00 inches of rain from this line so locally heavy rain
is still possible as these storms move slowly southward.
Wow, Muskegon area has had more thunderstorms the past couple hours than we’ve had all Summer combined! And there still more forming heading straight over the same area!
There have been dark clouds just to my north for almost 3 hours now but so far every thing is still to my north. There is even some purple on the radar do not see that all that often. At this time it is 79 here at my house with clouds and some peeks of the sun and very dark clouds to the north and northwest and at times it has been very windy.

With just 3 days to go it looks like meteorological summer 2019 with end up just a little above average. June was cool, July was hot and humid and that went into the first 3 weeks of August and the last part of August has been cool. Will do a summer recap next week.

Only 6 or 7 90’s recorded this summer for GR INDY will take it …This Summer heat wise was a breeze compared to last year and many others past!! High school football kicks off tonight that means it’s Fall yes!! Have a super Thursday …INDY
There have been 7 days of 90 or better so far this year. The 30 average for Grand Rapids is 8. There also have been 7 days of 89 and 2 days of 88 and several days of 87. The hottest day this summer should be 92, The 30 year average hottest reading at Grand Rapids is 94 so while it has been a very warm to hot summer as a whole it has not been all that much above average (other than July)
