Jury Duty

I do not think this is top secret so I will post it. I have been summons for jury duty starting on Monday April 15th I have done this before but it was years ago back at the old Kent County Court house. I hope none of you are set to have a trial next week in the Kent Court circuit court. As Monday is the 15th that means the month of April will be at the half way point. Here is where we stand as of Friday AM

As for April 15th here at Grand Rapids the average H/L is 58/38 the record high is 84 in2003 and the record low is 18 in 1943. Last year at Grand Rapids the H/L was 35/28 and there was 1” of snow on the ground. At Lansing the H/L was 33/29 and there was a trace of snow on the ground at Muskegon the H/L was 38/30 with 1”of snow on the ground. I was up in Bay City last year on April 15th and they had freezing rain and then heavy snow. There was 5” of snow on top of over ¼” of ice. Now here is some weather information of events around the country on April 15.
For Monday, April 15, 2019
1921 – Two mile high Silver Lake, CO, received 76 inches of snow in 24 hours, the heaviest 24 hour total of record for North America. The storm left a total of 87 inches in twenty-seven and a half hours. (David Ludlum)
1927 – New Orleans LA was drenched with 14.01 inches of rain, which established a 24 hour rainfall record for the state. (The Weather Channel)

1958 – A tornado 300 yards in width skipped along a five mile path near Frostproof FL. A 2500 gallon water tank was found one mile from its original position (it is not known how much water was in the tank at the time). (The Weather Channel)

(The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)

1990 – Thunderstorms developing along a stationary front produced severe weather from west central Texas to west central Arkansas during the late afternoon and evening. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)
For Tuesday, April 16, 2019

(The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)
1988 – A storm in the northeastern U.S. produced a foot of snow at Pittsburg VT. Severe thunderstorms produced baseball size hail and spawned five tornadoes in the Southern High Plains Region. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)
1989 – A cold front, ushering sharply colder air into the north central U.S., brought snow to parts of Montana and North Dakota. At midday the temperature at Cutbank MT was just 22 degrees. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)
1990 – Thunderstorms developing along a stationary front produced large hail and damaging winds across Oklahoma, with 99 reports of large hail and damaging winds during the evening and early nighttime hours. Thunderstorms produced baseball size hail south of Carney, and wind gusts to 100 mph in the Oklahoma City area which swept away many Federal tax returns being transported from a mail cart to a waiting truck about the time of the midnight deadline. Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City reported a record wind gust of 92 mph. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)
Let me know if you like this weather history or not it only goes to 1990 but there is a lot of good information there

We are thoroughly positioned within the weather parameters of the Southern Arctic…in other words, Michigan. It’s obvious that “severe storms” are out of the question for 2019, and snowfall should not be a “shock/surprise” in May. We are cold, windy and wet. Sunday’s forecast will fit nicely into August forecasting as well. Below average, below expectations, etc…sorry for the heartbreak.

Sorry, Sunday is family time. You make me laugh because you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Ask anyone who works in tree service what their ideal season for cutting trees is, and they will all say this time of year. Summer is to hot plus the foliage is a hinderance as well as in the Fall. Winter is usually out unless you have a stretch like we had in December and January with bare ground and mild temps. That makes Spring the ultimate ideal time to do tree work. With the amount of gear you need… Read more »

I had jury duty about 10 years ago in Holland. Got to sit in on 1 case and found it quite interesting. It was kind of a bummer though because we all knew the accused was guilty, but there as no solid evidence so we had to vote not guilty and let them get away with it. It was kind of time consuming, but I viewed it as a week of vacation from work!

Andy W
Andy W

Wow!! With the 60’s coming this week, I might have to break out the lawn mower later in the week!! Mowing the lawn in mid-April?!??!??! ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!! WHO KNEW!???!

Mark (East Lansing)
