Eeyore Weather

“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily. “So it is.” “And freezing.” “Is it?” “Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”

Looking at the weather in Michigan we can take an Eeyore or Tigger attitude.  My favorite Pooh character is Eeyore having had to entertain the kids and grand kids over the past few decades with their stories and movies.  Of course there is Piglet who would face stormy weather with fear and trepidation.  I guess my attitude would be more like Tigger bouncing about in acceptance no matter what happens.

Whether one is tolerant of all weather conditions or of the cold or hot dispositions there is no sense whinging (whining) about it – it is what it is, there is nothing we can do about it.

This week we have a bit of everything to make everyone happy (or sad).  We have a cool 38° at 4:30 this morning under clear skies.  Temps north of Big Rapids are hovering around freezing – there are showers moving towards lower Michigan from the southwest.

This is a screen shot at 5am showing the variety of weather today – snow, sleet, rain and storms.  Off in the Atlantic we have our first sub tropical storm of the season, however as Eeyore would say there are no earthquakes to report.  Any rain we see today should stay south of Grand Rapids with better chances for the whole area tomorrow….

Looks like an upper level low might be setting up shop by late next week over the Great Lakes. Which means more rain and cool temps .. I think we might need to run the furnace well into June this year..

This will be 5 months in a row with below normal temps, even though the warm weather fanatics will hype mindless gibberish! What an incredible cool stretch!

After 4 warm years in a row, a few cool months does not change the overall pattern. In fact, 2019 may still end up with above average temps!

The average H/L for the next week is starting for today 71/49 and ending next Tuesday 73/52. There will be no record highs or lows for the upcoming week as the record high for the week was 94 on May 28th just last year. And the record low for the upcoming week was 30 set on May 27, 1961 and May 23, 1963. It should be noted that temperatures in the mid 70’s and low 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s and low to mid 60’s are common in the last 10 days of May.
