Daylight Savings Time – Skywarn

I enjoyed the Spotter training yesterday – very informative.  This is my third year and it seems I pick up more info every year.  If you want a copy of the Skywarn field guide you can find it here.

You can get the spotters guides here.

Here is the Skywarn main page.

It was great to see Slim again in person we had a lot to talk about after not seeing each other for a couple years.  We are both members of CoCoRaHS and Skywarn and of course the main proprietors of the Michigan Weather Center.

I enjoy a good storm and find my self gawking out the window or standing on the porch.  One thing to keep in mind is that if you hear thunder lightning is not far away so it is a good idea to get inside and not become a lightning rod.  Don’t stand out in a storm or you may become part of it.  I have seen baseball sized hail and have seen what it can do.  We had a storm go through Allegan about 25 years ago dropping heavy hail on the parking lot at work – it looked like a junk yard after it passed.

I ordered a high end lightning detector last week which has a 40 mile range – it can tell the intensity of lightning in a storm and which way the storm is moving – hopefully I will get a chance to use it, we haven’t had many storms around here the past couple years.

Hope you all set your clocks forward last night and thank the government for the one hour of sleep deprivation.

We will have another sunny day today but light snow showers will break out late tonight and be around through midweek.  We should see temperatures around 50 or so by the end of the week into the weekend..

The skis will be getting tons of use yet this season! They have 10 to 12 inches of fresh snow up in SNOW country and a lot more is on the way! Who knew?

As long as it’s not here, I could not care less! It can snow til June in Northern Michigan and the UP for all I care! As long as it’s in the 60’s or 70’s here in Kent County!

It looks like winter weather will be hanging on well into March! I expect as least one or two more SNOWSTORMS! Forget golf and get your skies ready to ROCK n ROLL!

Nah, not really. I’d rather not ski on grass! In fact, I’d rather not ski ever!

Well our “skies” are clear and sunny here. If you meant skis, that is not happening as we haven’t had enough or any snow for a month now. Same with the snow “storms”, they have been non-existent. Haven’t touched the snow blower in over a month, and it’s getting put away for the season this week.

Haha!! I was going to point that out too Barry, I was like Skies??? With the 50’s coming next weekend might have to break out the golf clubs and hit the course for a nice early season 18 holes!
