There is a old saying that if March comes in like a lamb it will go out like a lion and or in like a lion out like a lamb. I am not sure if that is true or not Well depending on your definition of a lion and or lamb here are several examples of what might have been lions or lambs
Lions in
2016 March started out with a snowstorm of 7.4” and the temperature got down to +6 on the 4th the first 5 days had 10.1” of snow fall. That March ended with temperatures in the mid and upper 60’s true
2014 March 2014 started off with a snow event (2.4”) the temperature fell to -8° on the 3rd and there was 20” of snow on the ground on the 2nd the month ended with a high of 63 on the 31st but the months mean was -9.0 below average so kind of true.
1989 Cold with snow had a low of 3 on the first. Went out on the cold side after having a high of 76 on the 27th I guess true for that year in like a lion out like a lamb.
1962 March started out very cold with a low of -2 on the 1st and then a low of -4 on the 2nd there was 9” of snow on the ground on the 1st and with a 3.4” snow event on the 5th there was 11” on the ground on the 6th March 1962 went out with a high of 73 on the 29th but fell back to a high of 48 on the 31st will go with lamb on this year true
1912 the first 16 days of March were all much colder than average and for the whole month the highest temperature was only 49° the month had a departure of -10.6° so that was just a cold March False
Lions out
1970 March 1970 had a big 13.2” snow storm on the 26/27th there was 12” of snow on the ground on the 28th and the temperature fell +6 on the 29th there was yet another snow storm on April 1/2nd when 7.8” more snow fell and there was 9” on the ground on April 3rd 1970. March 1970 started on the cool side but only 1” of snow on the ground so came in like a lamb true
1969 March 1969 came in cold and went out cold false
1965 like 1969 March 1965 came in cold and ended cold and there was lots of snow that month 36.0” that is still the record for March snow fall here in Grand Rapids. False
1923 March 1923 was a cold March (-6.9) but as it came in at 40 on the 1st and had the highest temperature of 57 on the 2nd it did come in like a lamb and go out like a lion as the high/low on the 31st was just 20/6
Lambs in
1983 March came in warm with the high reaching 72 on the 3rd and highs were in the 60’s from the 2nd all the way to the 7th March 1983 ended with temperatures well below average and snow on the ground so out like a lion true
1992 while 1992 came in mild it went out cold the month had snow in the middle so just a cold March false
For March. average mean is 35.6° The warmest March was 50.7° in 2012. The coldest was 23.9° in 1960. The warmest day was March 21, 2012 with a high of 87° the coldest was -8° on March 8th 1943. The most snow for the month was 36.0” in 1965 the biggest one day snow storm was 13.6” on March 2nd 2002. The least amount of snow 0” in 1910 with just a trace reported in 1945. The wettest March was in 1948 when 5.77” was reported.
In the month of March Grand Rapids gains about one and a half hours of daylight. And we go from EST to daylight time (this year it is on March 11th (tonight)

Never EVER…ALONE!!
Looking Up at The Stars Tonight Reflecting On My Life.
I’ve Made Some Good Decisions and a Lotta Bad.
And I’m Still Trying To Re- Live My Days Gone Bye.
I’ve Tasted Happiness , and Chocked On The Pain.
Yet There is ONE THING That Will Always Remain The Same.
( Chorus) I Got GOD With Me Everywhere I GO.
Ya See With God You are NEVER Alone.
He Gives Strength When Im Weak.
And Peace…When My Understanding Fails Me.
He Gives Me Grace and Mercy and Forgiving LOVE.
That’s Just The Truth About My GOD.
He’s With Me Wherever I GO. And I’m Never ALONE.
Looking into Sun Filled Sky This Morning Reflecting on Yesterday.
I Made Somebody Laugh Plus I Made Someone Cry.
I’m Still Trying Find My Place In This World.
I Found It..Lost it ….Need To Find It Again.
Yet, There Is ONLY One Who Forgives my Sin.
