Yesterday we had a high temp of 62° and a low of° 43°. We have had only 15 days where no sort of precipitation fell here in Otsego this month. Total rainfall for the month is 5.75 inches and 8.19 inches of rain and melted snow for the season totaling 11.98 inches for the year. Today will be much cooler than yesterday with temperatures holding in the lower to mid-40s south and central Michigan, but only in the 30s north. Expect some light rain showers from time to time, mostly in the afternoon. Wet snow may mix in at times north of Big Rapids.
Highs will be back near normal by the weekend. Expect to see a fair amount of sunshine Thursday into Saturday. Our next storm system may bring showers by Sunday.
Forecast Discussion
-- Showers Today -- Upper-level trough (closed low at 500 mb) and 850 cold air advection will leave us prone to showers developing today, reaching their peak in the afternoon with diurnal instability. Fcst soundings from the HREF members show at least a 4000 ft thick cumulus layer with tops -10 to -12 C. Wet bulb zero heights may fall below 1000 feet AGL especially north of I-96 and late in the day. As such, it would not be surprising to see graupel mixing with rain in the heavier showers. Initially focused in western portions of the area this morning, showers will become focused farther inland, away from Lake Michigan, during diurnal max. Snow flurries from lingering showers are possible tonight in central- northern portions of Lower Mich. -- Cold Today and Wednesday -- As was indicated for several days as a possibility by the GFS and ECMWF, a pool of unseasonably cold low-level air that was over western Ontario as of Monday evening will advect into Lower Mich tonight. At 8 AM Wed, 850 mb air temperatures around -13C are likely at APX and -11C at DTX. This would be enough for a daily record low in their respective sounding climatologies since the late 1940s. Some locations in mid-southwest Michigan may come close to record lows Wednesday morning despite cloud cover and wind/mixing, but ultimately might not break records as they are competing with cold years prior to the sounding climatology and/or nights with more substantial radiational surface cooling. The small extent in area of the core of coldest air means very little residence time in Lower Michigan, and 850 mb temperatures are expected to moderate several degrees C by Wed afternoon, likely keeping record cold highs out of reach. But credit where it`s due, today and Wednesday will be among a handful of historically cold April 26s and 27s in the last century. Given the late start to the growing season, we do not expect frost/freeze headlines to be necessary in our area. -- Outlook -- The upper-air wave pattern in the region stalls out in the second half of the week as the low becomes anchored over Maine/Nova Scotia and the upstream ridge builds over the upper Midwest. This would maintain surface high pressure in our area and a dry pattern through Friday or Saturday. Temperatures will become gradually warmer though stay mostly cooler than normal. Medium to low confidence in the details of temperatures and precipitation Sunday into early next week, as a low occludes over the Midwest and the standing wave pattern over eastern North America starts to break down.
35 degrees outside in my hood temperatures are fallen fast record low temperatures tonight stay tuned….INDY
Well I’m back from Alabama. The temperature and weather is a nasty welcome back 😂 Alabama was fantastic. This is the first time I’ve seen cloudy skies in several days. I had nothing but sunshine and temperatures in the 80s and one day Upper 80s it was incredible. The humidity levels were low as well.
Same with Cabo! Picture perfect weather while were down there. Wife and I got home last night and woke up with Covid today. Not fun!! But at least it waited until after our vacation. Won’t be golfing anytime soon.
Ohh no! Hoping you and your wife fight it off and get better soon!!
Yeah it’s knocked us down pretty good. Hopefully because we are both double vaxxed and boosted that will help shorten the duration.
Yes it should and I am happy to hear you guys had enough sense to get the booster shot!
Of course!
+1
Not good, we’re you both boostered? And what are your symptoms?
It’s a lot like a flu for us.
My 2nd time around was basically a head cold nothing like the first time around give it 3 or 4 days it will be gone …Covid will always be around just basically a cold at best nothing to get crazy about again lets hope …InDY
That’s what we’re hoping INDY!
Praying for you and family my friend 🙏..Get well ..InDY
Thank you INDY!
1 million US citizens have died from Covid 19 and many parents are still waiting to see a vaccination approved for their young children! Covid 19 had been one of the leading causes of death in our country the last 2 years!
Andy… Please make sure you are drinking. If your symptoms get worse please seek medical attention!!! One of my family members passed just a few months ago from it!!!
Only 39 degress thats is 21 degrees below normal currently crazzy ….InDY
It looks like the weather word of day is again COLD! Amazing high temp today and then mid 20’s for lows the next 2 nights! Just incredible cold for this time of year and surely no blow torch in sight, despite the constant hype! Wow!
80’s and sunny over the weekend and cooler during the week is just fine by me! Next weekend looks once warmer once again. I’m loving this timing!
I always love looking back at past weather events in West Michigan. 11 years ago today a tornado watch was in effect. 1 tornado touched down near Burnips in Allegan County. The NWS office had hail at there office bigger than quarters. Where I lived in Byron Center just north of town there was 2” hail. We got hammered at my house by the 2011 derecho a few month later. The weather now seems to be less wild than it used to be, but maybe it’s just me.
I am surprised that with the big temperature swings we have had this spring that there has not been more severe storms. But if the big swings continue that could change.

There are several weather/climate events that are not kept in the record books one that really stands out it past records for the daily dew points. Now as for the other factor there are records as to when the last/first 32° temperature is reached and one can look the first/last 28° temperature (for a hard killing frost) there is no such reference as to when the wide spread “green” up starts. The reason I brought this up is that even with lows in the upper 20’s for the next two nights the NWS might not be issuing a frost/freeze warning.… Read more »
Amyways like Slim says Spring 2022 will be on the cool side of things just the facts ….INDY
Cool is an understatement! This has been a brutal Spring due to the cold temps, excess winds, excess clouds and above normal rainfall! On that note todays weather = cold and pathetic!
The long-term average of GR’s first 80 degree day is April 30th. Sometimes GR has not hit 80 until well into May or even June.
GR hit 82 degrees April 23rd this year! I saw multiple people swimming Saturday at the beach in Holland.
Who cares!
Since 1904 the average 1st 80° day at Grand Rapids is May 1st the earliest was March 14th 2012 and the latest was June 12 1924. At Lansing since 1864 the average date is May 2nd ranging from March 12th 2012 to June 12 1924.

NOAA’s summer forecast is now out. It’s basically a blow torch for all of the country – especially out west. I love long hot summers!
Just like the supposed blow torch you have been hyping for West Mi for the past 2 months that has not happened! I’m fact the blow torch has turned into a well below normal temp year so far! Wow!
Wow, Lansing is actually having a warmer than average April so far after a warm March!
Who cares? Lansing has no bearing on the weather in GR! 2022 has been well below normal in temps and we are entrenched in cool weather pattern! Wow!
Actually with a departure of +0.1 Lansing is considered near average. The definition of near average is +/- 0.5° And of all the major reporting stations in the state of Michigan Lansing is the only one even that +0.1 above the average mean.

Rock on Slim and those are some great facts! Incredible!
It also looks like another warm up is on the way. WOOD has 60’s and 70’s in their 8-day forecast now!
Dreaming and fantasizing again!
Here are the REAL facts! Wood shows one day with above normal temps in the next 8 days! They are showing 70:degrees for the high this Monday! They will end up being 100% wrong! It will not hit 70 degrees, in fact it will probably be closer to the low 60’s which will be below normal! Incredible!
100% correct no 70 in the 8 day forecast as of 530pm …wow …InDY
Terri D would tv 8 just said no real warmth through mid May now the below average Spring continues wow to the wow …InDY
Who knew?
I’m so glad we live in Southern Michigan. Been lots of snow out west and up north. We’ve gotten virtually no snow the past few months.
Total lie and fake news!
Temp is 38 degrees out in my hood will we even make 45 degrees today? For the end of April we will call it cold outside no joke …InDY
Lows in the mid 20’s the next two nights! Now that is incredible!
As I stated the official high/low yesterday at Grand Rapids was 56/40. Today and tonight look to be one of the coldest April 26’s in history. At Grand Rapids the coldest high for today is a cold 39 set in 1976 then comes 40 in 1950 and then 42 in 1932. We will have to see how today plays out. As for tonight the record low for April 27th is 28 set in 1927 there is a 4 way tie for 2nd place with 28 (1993, 1967,1967 and 1934) 29 is the 3rd coldest low for the date. Getting back… Read more »
After a brief 2 day warm spell we are back into the cold pattern we have been in much of April 2022. Yesterdays official high at Grand Rapids was a reported 56 and that was recorded at 1AM. At Lansing where the colder air did not arrive until a little later the official high was 66 just after midnight and thus adding to the warmer mean so far this month at Lansing (it was still 65 at Grand Rapids just before midnight)
Slim
Thanks for pointing out that the weather in Lansing has no bearing on GR! Some people are trying to say the readings in GR at the NWS are not accurate! What a desperate load of BS!
Just like the snow blowing into GR from Zland lol…Always something…..InNDY
You didn’t seem to mind when you constantly brought up Lansing snowfall LOL
Lol, nice try!
Wind chill in the mid 30’s all day long! Dress for winter weather and you should be fine! Great day for golf? Incredible! Wow, just wow!
