Cloudy with Rain

We picked up another .05 inch of rain yesterday from a brief shower in the afternoon.  Our high temp was 73° and the low 55°.

We expect steady rainfall to the north of I-96 today with increasing chances of rain south, especially in SE Michigan:

Much needed rainfall will continue through this evening with drenching downpours at times. A few rumbles of thunder are possible. Rain will taper off from west to east tonight.

A Flood Watch has been issued for a portion of Southeast Michigan. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible with localized totals near 3 inches. This will come from multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through tonight. All of Southeast Michigan remains in a Marginal Risk for heavy rainfall.

Not sure what’s been going on with the GR NWS office – they seem to be late with their forecast graphics as of late.

Forecast Discussion

- Rain and Storms Today -

Conditions are dry across most of the area early this morning as the
main frontal zone lifts north but precipitation chances will
quickly increase through this morning as the next mid-level wave
approaches. Afternoon temperatures will build with highs reaching
near 80 across the I-69 corridor with dewpoints rising into the
60s by this afternoon. This will support modest instability this
afternoon mainly along and south of the I-69 corridor. In addition
to modest instability, shear profiles will be supportive of any
convection that does develop. A marginal risk for strong to severe
storms is present mainly for the I-69 corridor.

In addition to the chances for strong to severe storms this
afternoon and evening, heavy rain will be another potential risk as
precipitable water values nose up to 1.5" to 2". Meanwhile, enhanced
vertical motion will be supported by the presence of upper-level jet
entrance region dynamics while the low-level jet aligns with
convection. As such, backbuilding/regenerative storms will be
something to watch for. HREF probability matched mean values
continue to paint localized streaks of up to 1.5" to 2.5" of
rainfall between 8pm Monday to 2am Tuesday across southeast lower
MI. Localized flooding will be possible in the typical high risk
areas.

The surface low will track northeast Tuesday morning with mostly dry
conditions expected by mid-day.

- Midweek Showers -

A sharpening trough ejecting from the Rockies will move over the
western Great Lakes resulting in a period of showers and perhaps
some thunder Wednesday. Overall precipitation should stay fairly
light with no great connection to Gulf moisture.

- Warmer Next Week -

Through much of this week slightly below normal temperatures are
expected, but as surface ridging builds early next week temperatures
will warm back closer to 80.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. It was a joyous weekend. I am one proud dad.

NWS GR has really backed off on the precipitation for tonight – 0.5″ or less, rather than the 1+” they were forecasting yesterday.

Slim

There has been some light rain here but not much. So far just 0.03″ of rain has fallen. And the temperature here is now at 68 and with a DP of 58 it feels rather nice out.

Our daughter’s high school commencement was yesterday. Some sprinkles during the ceremony but then the sun came out and it warmed up nicely. I can’t believe our baby girl is all grown up. 🥹

What a cold snap for the month of June! Below normal temps rule! Wow, just wow! Incredible cold stretch!

Slim

While it has been below average it has not been cold. It is the coolest start to any June since 2013 but it is nowhere as cold as the start of June in 1945 when the first 7 days were all over 10 degrees below average. There were two days more than 20° below average -20.6 and -20.4. one day at -17.9 -14.7. -12.5 -12.2 and -10.3.
