We have some much-needed rain falling at 6 am this morning. The lawns and gardens appreciate the rain over well water anytime. Yesterday’s high was 74° and the low 59°.
Rain will be moving out this morning with mostly cloudy skies into the afternoon and highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. We should see another chance of showers Wednesday and Thursday. Any lingering showers should clear out with fair and milder weather into the first half of the weekend.
Forecast Discussion
...Clearing today, then showers Wed/Fri... Regional radar shows showers moving across southern Lower and thunderstorms over northern Indiana. The precipitation is being generated by weak low pressure at the surface and a corresponding short wave aloft that will move east of the cwa this morning. Prior to doing so, however, locally heavy rain will be possible, mainly south of I-94 where precipitable water values are near 1.5 inches. Radar shows the back edge of the showers are moving over western Lake Michigan at this time and should be east of the cwa by 13z. Surface high pressure will build in from the northwest today and we should see some clearing as the day progresses. IR loop shows clearing over Wisconsin and that will move across the state today. Water vapor imagery shows a short wave moving over the northern Rockies early this morning. This wave will induce low pressure over the Plains and then move east across Michigan Wednesday. Both the GFS and ECMWF show a nice upper wave accompanying the surface low. We`re looking at mainly showers, but an isolated thunderstorm will also be possible, especially south of I-96. The wave will move east Wednesday night and Thursday will be dry as high pressure builds in behind it. Then the pattern repeats as another wave moves east across the northern Rockies arriving in Michigan Friday and producing more showers/isolated thunder. ...Dry weekend... Models are indicating a pattern change developing over the weekend. Instead of the quasi-zonal flow we`re seeing this week, a more amplified ridge develops over the Plains and then moves east. This would result in dry weather and generally sunny conditions and highs in the mid 70s. However, once the ridge moves over us early next week, temperatures will rise into the 80s again and dewpoints will climb into the 60s.

Yesterday was above average temps. Look at that forecast: 70-80 degrees with lots of sun the next 8 days or so. Then, the heat is on. I love it!
I am looking forward to the sunshine this afternoon. This has been an awfully cloudy year so far. Probably my main takeaway from 2022 in terms of weather will be how cloudy it was (at least the first half of the year).
I had .4 inches in my gauge as of 7 a.m., with a bit of fog (Hamilton). Yes. it is nice to know the garden hose will stay on the rack today…
Yesterdays official H/L at Grand Rapids was 75/59.Just 13% of sunshine was reported. At the airport only 0.01″ of rain fall was reported. The overnight low so far both at GRR and here at my house was 60 and that is the current temperature here as well. At the airport 0.05″ of rain fell and here in my yard only 0.04″ fell. For today the average H/L is 77/56. The record high of 94 was set in 2011 and the record low of 38 was set in 1958. Last year the H/L was 80/68.

We had some pretty decent rain about 2:30 am. Lightning and thunder woke me. We just had another decent shower. I wish we had gotten more rain than we did.
