Clouds Give Way to Some Sun

Morning clouds are expected across Southwest Lower Michigan. As we move through the day more in the way of sunshine should occur. High temperatures will range from the lower 40s across Central Lower Michigan to the lower 50s across Southern Lower Michigan. Even with mostly cloudy skies yesterday we reached  59° after an overnight low of 26°.  Our tulips are poking up out of the ground which is a good signal of better things to come.  After all the cold temps yesterday was t-shirt weather (for me).  Of course, as we progress into summer the 50s will seem cold. Just goes to show how our bodies adapt to the weather.

Tomorrow is predicted to be in the low 60s (in Otsego) with lots of sun which will give everyone a good dose of spring fever.

Forecast Discussion

...A chance of precipitation later in the week...

A weak frontal boundary is sagging south across the cwa early this
morning. The boundary is just south of I-94. The atmosphere is
pretty dry and so there isn`t any precipitation across the cwa at
this time. A weak wave of low pressure will move east and push the
boundary farther south today where it will wash out. Accompanying
the surface low is an upper short wave that will move over northern
Lower. We should see quite a bit of sunshine by this afternoon as
the surface low and upper wave move east and high pressure moves in.

Another cold front will approach Wednesday night and low pressure
will ride northeast along it toward Michigan. Confidence is pretty
high that we`ll see some precipitation with it beginning Thursday.
The ECMWF is farther south than the GFS and so might be a little
colder. Even the ECMWF though isn`t all that cold. Thus we should
see rain for the most part. However, as the low moves by, a little
colder air wraps in to the north side. As the precipitation ends, it
may mix with some snow Friday night.

High pressure moves in for the weekend resulting in partly cloudy
skies.

Wednesday and Thursday will be mild with highs around 60, then
cooling into the 40s and 50s for the weekend.

I was one of the “cold” pockets of West Michigan. Low clouds hung around here longer than other parts of our area. I think I squeezed out mid 40s while some got to around 60. Down to 40 degrees currently.

Thanks for sharing and I don’t care what time they choose. Just choose one and never have to change the time ever again!!!!!!!!!!! The 2 times per time change is just so stupid. It drives me crazy that it has gone on this long! The studies are 100% clear and have been for a long time that the time change is bad for your health! Period and case closed! Get rid of it for good!

I love the late sunsets in the summer. The winter is so dark either way I don’t care. So keeping DST sounds good to me!

I really think this would be a good thing.

So, we hit 62 and 63 degrees on December 15th and December 16th last year.

Then, we hit 64 degrees on March 5th.

To me, in between is winter – with the true winter season being consistent temps in at least the 20’s and 30’s. Very short this year!

Slim

According to the Accumulated winter season severity index the that is not the case. The criteria that is used it the first time the 1. The first snow fall of more that 0.1” 2. The maximum temperature is 32 or less. 3. December 1. At Grand Rapids that was on November 12th when 1.2” of snow fell. Using the AWSSI criteria the winter season will end when. 1. The last 0.1” of snow fall. 2. Last day with1” of snow on the ground. 3 last day with a maximum of 32 or lower. 4. February 28/29. We will not know… Read more »

The official high at GRR yesterday was 54 and the official overnight low 34. Here at my house the overnight low 35. That official low of 34 (unless it falls below that before midnight) is just the 2nd time in 2022 that it has not fallen to 32 or colder. In fact it is only the 2nd time since December 25 that it has not fallen to 32 or below and just the 10th time since December 1st Now on the flip side of things I know a lot of people have seen robins already and this morning I seen… Read more »

Pretty cloudy here this morning. My tulips and crocuses are up too.
The birds are pretty busy.

I’ve been listening to the birds all morning while I work. It’s a really welcoming sound, especially in early spring

I am hearing lots of birds today. I just filled my feeders up.

Wow, 54 degrees yesterday in GR and going even higher this week! I find it funny that NWS GR will write huge paragraphs when we get arctic air, but this is all we get when temps will be 10-20 degrees above average:

“Wednesday and Thursday will be mild with highs around 60, then cooling into the 40s and 50s for the weekend.”

I mean c’mon. That’s classic NWS GR who seems to love the cold and snow.

Rocky (Rockford)

Ridiculous assessment and comment!

Nathan (Forest Hills)
Nathan (Forest Hills)

I really don’t think they have an opinion. There isn’t much detail needed for generally quiet and mild weather. A lake effect event or synoptic system requires a lot more analysis.

Slim

The NWS would make a comment if record temperature were in the forecast. At this time they are not. Here is a fun fact since December 25th to March 14th the low has been above 32 on two days.

I will make note of the next time we see 10-20 degrees below average weather and their write-up. I’ve noticed it’s not just a winter phenomenon. Anyway, not much else to talk about these days!

Kyle (Portland, Ionia County)
Kyle (Portland, Ionia County)

Some do more Thorough write-ups than others. If I was working there I would not be typing much up because really nothing noteworthy to go into detail about. Above average temps in the forecast yes but anything to get into depth about no.

Rocky (Rockford)
Rocky (Rockford)

Rock on Nathan, but mookie is so warm weather biased, he thinks the NWS should do a long write every day the average temp is even one degree above normal! Ridiculous!

Andy W
Andy W

But Rocky is so cold weather biased that he thinks one inch of snowfall overnight in February is a Winter Storm!! Ridiculous!

Boy awfully quiet on the blog! LOLOL! Must mean we are in for some nice SPRING WARMTH!! Who doesn’t love warm weather this time of year?!??!

The silence is deafening, and it’s barely mid March! I love it!

Yes we are getting incredibly warm temps for Mid March standards! Feels more like late April outside!!

Kyle (Portland, Ionia County)

Not exactly much to talk about when it’s 40 degrees and cloudy with an overall quiet pattern.

I would prefer heavy snow this time of year!
