We have a winter weather advisory which will expire at 9 am this morning. We have another light coating of snow in place on the ground to add to the meager amounts we have seen thus far this winter. We are closing in on the midpoint of winter this week and will need copious dumps of snow to make up for the deficit. I would say take care in what you wish for.
Our next chance will be on Wednesday which will once again be a frozen mix which at this time will fall mainly north of I96. We may have a stronger system move in for the late week time frame. Below are the totals from the NWS of the last system to soak us and the flood update of area rivers.

Wild Bill and MVS best Saturdays Storm looks like a Monster Winter storm watches coming prepare now …Any thoughts?? INDY
I am not feeling it yet! Let’s see how the models look in 2 or 3 days!
Looks like another big one coming for the weekend!!!!!
Hopefully it will bigger than the so called historic storm from this past weekend!
Personally, i would take snow over freezing rain any day. Not that i like snow or anything.. Lol
Always go with snow! Freezing rain is the worst!
BTW I mentioned to Mr. Steffens yesterday about the existence of this blog and while he said he is too busy to comment, he said that Michael has done a great job with the site. Just thought I’d let you all know!
Awesome!
The Red Cedar River is way over the banks on campus. I have a feeling that if this rainy pattern continues into the spring… there could be some major river flooding (maybe like 2018?).
Bill is a personal friend he mesg me alot and is a busy man I’m thinking retirement is coming for him in July maybe he will come on the blog then more or run his own then …In Bill we Trust ..INDY
Yes Bill is awesome. Personally my favorite meteorologist.
And we can only hope for a nother cool summer like last year ….Let it snow through April …. Yeaaaa!!! INDY
Last year was above average in the period June – October. I definitely would take a repeat of that!
Less mosquitoes please… LOL!!!
Maybe only July and that was for a short 3 week period lol… Lying on the past …INDY
Yes it will be snowing a lot right into April this year! Bring it!
My gas bill was down -21% year-over-year today! Thank you warm temps!
Halfway through Winter and we’ve only used 5% of our wood, the snow blower is still sitting in the barn waiting for its first use, and the new tires I bought a few months back are not so new anymore with over 3000 miles on them already and they’ve seen a littld snow maybe twice. Love these kind of Winters!
With today’s snow fall Grand Rapids will go over the one inch mark for January 2020! It was snowing but now it has stopped with a temperature of 32 here at my house

That is almost laughable being halfway through the month!
Great Lakes ice coverage is currently sitting at only 1.8% total for all of the five lakes combined. That’s way below the average of 15% that we normally see by this date. As of January 10, this is the second lowest ice coverage ever recorded on the Great Lakes for this time of year. Incredible!
It looks like the total of coverage is around 5.8% but still not much ice at all. It looks like even the Saginaw Bay is not 100% ice covered and there is no ice in the lower Lakes at all.

My numbers were from an article over the weekend in the national media.
Interesting how Lake Erie has no ice cover. Usually that is the first lake to freeze over.
Mookie says it will be dry this week! Really? More fake news!

Yep pretty dry until the weekend again with another mixed precip event. An exact repeat of last week if you read my post.
Anyone looking for perfect outdoor winter sports conditions just head up to Cadillac and points North! It was perfect and I saw tons of snowmobiles, skiers, cross country skiers, snowshoeing, etc. Just a sort 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive to snow Heaven!
5 out of 7 up north locations are reporting below average snow for the season. Outside of the Gaylord area, most places still have very little snow on the ground for this time of year.

Snow coverd all the way from post drive 131 Plainfield township to Boyne Falls Michigan not sure what your talking about ….INDY
Hey Indy! You know mookie – all about warm weather hype and lies! The skiing has been great up on snow country since late November and it will only get better! Rock on and keep the snow facts rolling!
Only a few inches of snow on the ground in the dead of winter is not much for up north.
9 inches in Boyne my friend not bad ..INDY
All signs point towards a cold snowy rest of January and February! Who would have thought?
Through the first 12 days of January, GR is +9.5 degrees above average. The mean of 34.2 degrees for January is two degrees warmer than we were in March of last year!
This has to be one of the warmest beginnings of a year we’ve ever seen.
At the midpoint of winter, GR is now 16″ below average snow. Winter has seemingly all but evaded us for the first half. Pretty dry and mild again this week. Perhaps another mixed precipitation event this weekend. It’s like deja vu all over again.
Wonder how many people are returning generators today that they bought last week for our infamous “big daddy” storm over the weekend. Ridiculous.
Was at Home Depot yesterday and a sign on the door said no refunds on open generators!

Another winter weather statement for this?? Barely even a dusting. You would think we are living in Florida where panic is spread at the sight of a snowflake. Seems they are trying to make winter happen, but all we get is a tenth of an inch here and a tenth of an inch there.
Or perhaps we are being jinxed 🙂
