Well, all good things must come to and end. One could not ask for a better weekend as this past one with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the fifties.
We probably won’t see the fifties again for awhile – I would say perhaps not until late March but, knowing how our last couple winters have played out I wouldn’t bet the house on it.
A warm front will be lifting northward through the region today. There will be morning showers and even a few thunderstorms around, especially to the northwest of Kalamazoo and Lansing.
This afternoon will be mostly cloudy, breezing and unseasonably mild. Less in the way of shower activity is expected. Gales will be ongoing for much of Lake Michigan. A strong cold front arrives tonight with gusty showers and local thunderstorms returning.
As far as lake effect snow through Thursday I think will be minor as the air will be fairly dry after the front moves through. Precipitable water is on the low side (the browns) as shown in the image above left. Our best chance of seeing accumulating snow will be this coming weekend . The best chances of heavier snow squalls will from Gaylord to the north. I am not saying we won’t see snow on the ground in the SW lower but at this point I think they will be minor.
60° at midnight. The front has moved through and the westerly wind is howling.
Some thunder & lightning here. Huge rain drops. Looking at the radar I don’t think it will last long. With the high winds in the forecast we have moved a couple things into the garage.
The temperature here at my house is now up to 60° (it’s officially 58 at the airport) If it were to get up to 60° officially it would tie for 3rd place for the all time high for this date at this time the top 3 warmest are 65° in 2012, 63 in 1941 and 60° in 1961.

The current temperature here at my house is 48° (the last reading at the airport was 47°) and there is light rain falling. Now for some interesting facts. The month of December now as had 3 days in a row with highs above 50° and it looks like today should be the 4 day in a row of highs of +50° while it happened not that long ago in 2012 and 1998 it has only happened 5 times since 1930! (2012, 1998, 1962, 1951 and 1932) of those past years two are of interest 1962 and 1951. Both years December… Read more »
Wow, four 50+ degree days in a row to start December! Boyne was supposed to open for good December 1st, but it’s closed again today with warm temps and rain. Still not seeing any major snowfall events outside of some lake effect.
Going back to 1930 there have only been 5 Decembers were the month started with 4 days in a row of 50+ at Grand Rapids (2012, 1998,1962,1951 and 1932)

How about 5 days in a row? Tuesday at 12:01am could be 50+ as well.
In December 1998 the first 6 days were 50+ with 3 of them being 60+ and in 1951 6 of the first 7 days were 50+
