For those loyal customers of the Weather Coffee Shoppe if you haven’t noticed I closed it down December 1st – if you try to go there it automatically reverts to this site. I am still moving content from there to here – it is a time consuming process but most of the weather data is here along with past posts – I just haven’t made it all visible to the public yet. All the weasels and hackers are blocked out. Believe it or not I do get users from Russia and Iran trying to gain access – just another background task for me to keep up with…
I update the main weather forecast page between 7 an 7:30 am daily and try to get the daily blog post out by 8am – I work on this site from 6:30 to 8am and don’t have much time after that for updates unless there are severe or note worthy events taking place – I still have my money making job in the pharmaceutical industry from 9 to 5. I hope to retire sometime early next year to make this site my full time job. If you would like to donate money to help with the expenses of keeping this site running you can email me and let me know. Putting ads up here are counterproductive and ugly – I hate them.
Here we are dancing merrily into meteorological winter (or not) leaving the fall behind and what a nice extended fall we had. On the main page of this site (Michigan Weather Forecast) there is a winter weather safety slideshow at the top. Now is a good time to review it as we have a couple nice days remaining before the bottom drops out. Snowblowers, plows and snow shovels should be out and ready by Wednesday. Drive slow as the roads will become slippery – no sense getting into a hurry as you may end up in the ditch or worse and ruin your day.
Below are the climate reviews for the U.P. for fall and Grand Rapids, Lansing and Muskegon for November. We ending up with below normal temperatures for all the state with mainly below normal snowfall with the exception of a few places in the U.P..

For S.W. lower Michigan a strong low pressure system will track northeastward through the Great Lakes region Monday into Tuesday. A powerful cold front will swing eastward through Lower Michigan Monday night into Tuesday morning. Ahead of this front the airmass will be unseasonably mild but behind it the temperatures will turn sharply colder. A band of showers and thunderstorms along with gusty winds will accompany the passage of this front. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some storms develop ahead of the front.
Most of the models I am looking at are showing strong northwest to west winds on Wednesday with temperatures in the 20s. This should allow the lake effect snow to affect at least two lakeshore counties in from the coastline, maybe further east dependent of the winds coming off the lake, I believe the heaviest will be right along the lakeshore counties. I am not seeing the snow-bands getting organized until after 4pm on Tuesday. I will get some snowfall prediction maps up for tomorrows post.

The weather this weekend was great for putting up Christmas lights, making sure the snow blower is working or just out walking enjoying the day. I hear it is going to rain all day Monday & then the temps fall Tues as the Arctic air moves in. It felt good to be out walking & saying hi to neighbors.
Looking forward to winter arriving! I do have to admit..this weekend’s weather was great for prepping for the winter.
Still trending in the right direction! Bring it!

Been a odd Fall for sure! September had that crazy heat wave with days in the mid 90’s, October seemed like it rained the whole month, then November being rather cool, but with zero snow other than a few flakes. December looks like it may be cool as well, but unless you live by the lake, I’m wondering if there will be much snow this month either. We just recently got a new AWD Terrain, and I’m curious to see how it does on snow, if we ever get much accumulating snow.
In looking back trying to find a similar summer/fall leading up into the winter season to try and find a analog year I have not see one as of yet. Not sure it means anything as I am not sure if analogs are a way to go in guessing the next season.
