The storm track is becoming a bit more clear but the issue is still when the rain will change over to snow.
Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Van Buren and Kalamazoo
counties and to the east continue with the winter weather advisory until 10 pm tonight. The counties in pink have a winter storm warning where up to 8 inches of snow may fall.
This is still a tricky forecast as upper air temperatures figure in. Two meter temperatures are in the mid thirties and I don’t think we will break 40 today. We currently have rain and 37° as we wait for the storm wrap around to drag in the colder air from the north.
The developing low pressure system will pass just off to the south of Lower Michigan today moving east across Indiana and Ohio.
Rain will continue to spread into Lower Michigan this morning before mixing with and changing over to snow in many areas. The low will increase northerly winds which will pull colder air into the system.
The cooling temperatures will make for a change over to snow through the course of the late morning and early afternoon hours. A swath of heavy wet snow is expected today from south of Hastings east through Mason and Leslie towards Pontiac. Currently the models show 1 to 3 inches for most of SW lower Michigan with heavier amounts eastward. The QPF (quantitative precipitation forecast) is showing around an inch of rain – we already have .30 here in Otsego. Needless to say it will be a raw nasty day.
The snow will end this evening with high pressure building in for Friday and the weekend. Dry weather is expected from Friday through Sunday with seasonable temperatures for this time of year.
Check out NY state. I may be planning a trip to NY or the UP in the next 2 weeks for some outdoor winter sports!

LOL
I hear Siberia has tons of snow too, you might want to look into a trip there!! LOL!!
Siberia is little too far away, however a 6 to 8 drive and a long weekend and it could be snow Heaven on Earth! Rock n Roll will never die!
You really need to move here!

That does look like SNOW Heaven!
I hate to admit it, but maybe the warm weather fanatics are correct! Could winter be over? Sad but possible! The last few weeks have been horrendous! If we don’t get a snowstorm in the next 2 weeks I will transition to golf!
This has got to be the WORST snowfall forecast ever! Especially for Ottawa and Kent county. All the local mets and the GR NWS get a complete FAIL! Give me a break!
AGREE
some of the maps were showing a foot of snow for my area.
We got about 1-2″. The grass is pretty much covered. Sunny and 40s will make short work of melting it, though.
Where IS ROCKY????????
Hmmmmmmmmm
I wondered the same thing. He must be outside yet waiting for the snow to start.
Lol!!! He’ll be waiting a while, check out the WARMTH on this model!!

What a BUST…Not One Drop of Rain not One Flake.
What a Storm,,,,Bring It,,,,Rock n Roll is Alive.
We had rain here early this morning and around 9 AM it turned to snow & it stopped fast. It didn’t last 10 minutes.
Had some ribs for the grill today but with it being windy and 37* outside they are in the oven … let’s go Blue Michigan better pick it up or it’s going to be one and done in the the BIG 10 tourny today .. INDYDOG14!!

Looking really good! Loving the continued WARMTH!!
Yesterday was the 3rd time we reached 60 in the month of February. The last time that happened was in 1930.
Bill also says, “With no snow on the ground, we can probably bump up the highs for Fri. – Sun. by a couple degrees.” Looking like an even warmer, sunny weekend now that the snowstorm was a bust.
Nice first full week of March gloomy and highs in the 30’s and low 40’s .. So long 60’s for awhile yeaaa!! INDYDOG14!!
Which is exactly where we are supposed to be for this time of year. 60s are a good 20+ degrees above normal!
I looked at it as a taste of Spring! Normally we are not that warm. Blue skies and sunshine were wonderful! Normally we have cloudy cold days. Spring is coming. 🙂
NWS GR point forecast for me has dropped the snowfall amount three times this morning already.
ADA – A bit of drizzle…and a lone snowflake now and then. Glad it missed.
Ottawa, Kent, Alllegan, and Van Buren counties have been dropped from the WWA.
Well, that’s all she wrote folks for GR. Rocky must be beside himself.
Reminds me of waiting in the pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin to rise up.
After you wrote this we had HUGE flakes!!! I was going to say of course we were dropped the snow picked up. Now back to spring (rain)!!!
We’ve had 10 minutes of drizzle, 10 minutes of pellets, and the ground is barely wet. Here’s a current pic behind our house:

What a snowstorm huh, Barry? haha Thanks for the picture.
Rain is transitioning to snow here in Allegan at 10:30am – rainfall has been .81 (as of 10:30) – Radar indicates it has been snowing in Lansing for about an hour….
We had some light rain that became snow – nothing on the ground. Now er have nothing. Cloudy & damp outside. I think most will miss me.

Not even a drop of rain here yet. Looking at the radar, it looks like it might all stay South of us. Fine with me, we really dont need any more water in our yard for a while!
Interesting I have a buddy that works in Zland sent me a text big snow flakes falling out of the sky.. must be a different part of town! INDYDOG14!!
Must be. There were some pellets for about 15 minutes, but that’s it here. In fact, here’s a current pic out back by us:

Getting flakes now.
Local guy is sticking with 2-6″ for here. Said it’s nearly impossible to predict accurately. Lots of variables in the atmosphere, have no idea when the transition will occur, and have no idea how much of the initial snowfall will melt on the warm ground.
Ready to go back to the 60’s please I’m over Winter!! INDYDOG14!!
👍
LOL You were calling for 6″ yesterday
Just like back to the 40’s this weekend is spring like lol!! Yeaaaaa!!
Bust for West Michigan! 0-2″ according to the latest NWS graphic this morning.

Thank you Jesus that all of this snow is going off to the south and east of GR!!
