Sunny Weather In Store

These are the kind of patterns us weather people enjoy just like everyone else but it leaves not much to talk about in regards to weather anyway.  The seed catalogs have been arriving  for plans of what will go into our gardens this year.  I am going to try growing my tomatoes and peppers in hay bales this year.  If you haven’t heard of that there is a lot of info on the web and in Mother Earth News (I have been a subscriber for years and I have their entire archive on a USB stick.)  My problem is we planted a lot of maple trees around the yard 20 years ago so it is getting rather shady – the front yard is still in the sun most of the day but my wife has her multiple flower beds out there and the veggies would clash.  We have thought about tapping the maple trees for syrup but it is a lot of work boiling it down, maybe we will do it after I retire.  For now we look at our seed catalogs with dreams of the warmer weather and all the good things we can grow in the ground.  Plus I am not looking forward to mowing the lawn twice a week.

We received 1.11 inches of rain from the last storm system with a trace of snow – any snow that fell melted as it hit the ground.

High pressure will be situated across the Great Lakes region from today through the weekend. Quiet weather is forecast through Sunday with mainly clear skies expected. Highs will be near 40 today, into the low 40s on Saturday and into the mid 40s for Sunday. Normal highs for this time of year are in the upper 30s. The weather turns a bit more active early next week as a slow moving low pressure system brings both the chance of rain and snow.

GR has already hit 45 degrees – once again easily outperforming the forecasts.

Directly from the NWS.

“A rather cold period seems in store Tuesday night through Thursday
as H8 temps continue to drop toward -10C by Thursday. A cyclonic
flow and passing short waves should help to maintain a chance of
snow. It may even become cold enough into Thursday to expect some
lake enhancement to the snow”.

And how did storm team 8 due on the last storm. They predicted 3 inches of snow for GR and GR got ZERO!

42, 45, 48 and sunny the next 3 days! Yesterday was +6.5 degrees above average, so it looks like we’re starting March quiet and warm. We’re also very close to going back below average in the winter snowfall department.
