Sunny Skies

First up: Slims high temperature contest for March – not sure if he has a prize in mind, however I think it would be appropriate for a prize for whoever is the furthest off from the highest temperature reading for the month.  The prize would be a dinner date with the opossum who is eating the cat food on my porch.  As you can see he is a friendly fellow – I got within two feet of him to snap the photo and he just sat there posing.

I am an animal lover and have no fear of them (unless they want me for lunch).  He has the appearance of an older possum which means he is probably smart in the ways of finding food.  I think he comes early to get the food before the raccoons come visiting.  When there are coons or possums eating, the cats will line up and wait their turn, neither seem bothered by the other.

Here are the high temp guesses so far for March:

Slim: 64 – Indy 57 – Sandy 69 – Rocky 49.4 – and 62 for me.

We have a couple sunny days in store and temps will be above freezing over most of the next eight days with fifties and possibly a 60° reading next week.  I would say it is a good bet we can say goodbye to the snow pack.  Rain will move in for Saturday afternoon when we can expect around half an inch.  We could still see some snow showers but rain will be more the theme than snow over the next week.

That could put a crimp in my skiing next weekend. We shall see and as of right now I am planning to ski next weekend as well!

I have been skiing for 30 plus years and this year the snow and ski conditions rank in the top 10! Virtually all reporting stations in northern lower mi are above normal for snowfall for the season already! What a winter! El Niño and great snowfall totals and conditions! Who would have thought?

Let me describe the snow conditions, ski conditions and the scenery up here! Breathtaking, gorgeous, beautiful, spectacular, incredible, unbelievable, fantastic, glorious, wonderful, and Heaven on Earht! Who wouldn’t love winter with these conditions? Sunny and temps in the teens and 20’s! Wow!

I have been up in snow country for only 2 days and I have already gone cross country skiing, downhill skiing and snowshoeing! I love it!

Wow, I like all the optimism on a lot of the March temp guesses. Last year, the hottest we got in March was 56 degrees, so I’m just hopeful we can get hotter this year! I’ll predict a max of 62 degrees because the latest weeklies show the real heat the second week of April and mainly average to slightly above until then.

GR hit 71° two years ago. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I’ll go with 72…it’s not impossible:)

That would be nice.

High temp for March? I’ll say 71 just because our snow pack will be gone by next week if not sooner, and there is not much snow on the ground to the South.

From this point out, the snow pack is going bye bye .. Bring on SPRING !!!!!

Slim

Got you down for 71. It has reached 70 or better in many past years in March. Most of the snow should be gone by late next week, there will be a lot of snow to the north and north west so there also could be some very cool days ahead with a northwest wind,
Slim

I was going to say 70… Lol

Our property, covered by a foot of snow, will require much more than a quick thaw to produce any change. A quick bump above freezing is comforting, but hold fast to reality…it is only March 🙁

Looks like we hit 55-60+ degrees next week!

The average H/L at Grand Rapids is now 41/24 the official low at GR last night was +8 here at my house I got down to +3. After the first week of March Grand Rapids is now -11.8 for the month and there has been 7.3” of snow fall. For the season so far Grand Rapids has now had 75.8” of snow fall and since last July 1st GR has had 5221 heating degree days.

Contrary to some on here who claim this was a harsh winter, GR had a “below average” winter according to the winter severity index.

“Grand Rapids hasn’t had much of a winter according to the AWSSI. Although admittedly it was a really mild winter until mid-January, and then has climbed through two severity categories. But it’s still not into the average winter status.”

Don’t forget about the cost probably the most expensive Winter ever that’s for sure…. My gals have to go to school a extra full week in June because of snow days ohh man we can’t forget the state of emergency’s declared and the coldest air temperatures since the 90’s record snowfall in November February and March power outages for over a week. The best of all above average snowfall for GR..Yeaa not so harsh is right LOL! INDY!

Mookie
Mookie

GR would probably be in the “mild winter’ camp if it wasn’t for that one cold week.

INDY
INDY

That’s right you where in Florida for a month lol..You missed out on the cold …INDY!

Slim

The winter will end up near average with near average temperatures, above average snow fall. It was a classic “back loaded” winter. The only reason it will have above average snow fall will be because of November.
