This past summer there was some talk on how humid it was and if it was more humid then in past summers. At that time I was looking for a site that kept the records for each days dew point. Well I have found a site that does that. It is a slow process as one has to look up each month by year. At this time I will not go into each year of record (this site breaks Grand Rapids down to the current airport. The old airport and a older down town site) For this report I went back to 2012 (a really hot summer) to see how the Dew points have stacked up for the warm months of May, June, July, August and September. In each month I have listed the highest air temperature for that month. The highest Dew Point reading for that month and the average dew point for that month.
2019 May highest air 79, highest DP 66 ave DP 47. June highest air 89, DP 69, ave DP 56. July Air 92, DP 78, ave DP 63. August air 88, DP 73, ave DP 58. September highest air 87, DP 73, ave DP 58.
For the years 2018 to 2012 it will go month. Highest air temperature. Highest DP and that months average DP.
2018 May air 93, DP 74 ave DP 52. June air 94, DP 77, ave. DP 60. July air 94, DP 75, ave dp 61. August air 91, DP 76, ave DP 65. September air 89, DP 74, ave DP 58.

In all of the 8 years 2012 to 2019 there were months in the summer when the dew point reached into the 70’s with the highest being 78 in 2019 the highest average dew point in the 8 years was 65 in August of 2018. But the highest and what must be one of the highest heat index in recent times at Grand Rapids happened on July 13th and 14th 1995. On the 13th the high was 97 and the dew point was 81 that is the highest I can find for Grand Rapids. And on the next day the high was also 97 with a dew point of 80.

Here is some weather history for Halloween at Grand Rapids over the years. The average high is 55° and the average low is 39° The warmest was 79° in 1950 other warm Halloweens were 78° in 1933 and 76° in 1979. The coldest temperature recorded on the date was 20° in 1988 other cold Halloweens were 24° in 1949 and 25° in 1925. The coldest maximum was 32° in 1917, other cold days were 37° in 1906 and 1996. The wettest was 1.27” in 1994 with other wet days being 121” in 2013 and 1.10” in 1919. Contrary to a common belief snow on Halloween is very rare in Grand Rapids with the most falling being 1.5” in 1917 and in 2nd place 0.3” in 1932 there has been a trace reported on several years with 2014 being the last year. Last year the high/low was 57°/47°

Overnight low of 32 here so our first light freeze, took until the final week of October. Still no hard freeze. Driving past Herman Miller this morning the entire front lawn was full of geese, just hundreds of them. I snapped a quick pick and you can see some, but there are hundreds more just over the little hill by the large pond. Also notice how full and green the trees still are.

And speaking of trees, we were in Holland yesterday and there is even less color than there. Peoples yards don’t even have any leaves yet. Looks more like late September than the end of October.
The leaves are falling at a good clip here today. The low here was 29 and there was ice in the bird bath.

The one thing I know is the closer to the lake you get the trees take longer to turn and loose their leaves. I see this every year when we head to the lake and the trees by my place bright and colorful and some trees are bare. I don’t know what the lake has to do with it but it just seems like that.
Nice compilation of stats Slim! The average dp does appear to be higher recently especially in July and September over the years you posted. It would be interesting to compare it over a larger set of years.
It would be nice if it was easier to get the information. But at least next summer I will know where to look

Good morning. The overnight low here at my house was 29 before some clouds moved in. The official low at GRR looks to be 31. Yesterday the H/L at Grand Rapids was 49/41 and at this time the mean for this October at Grand Rapids is now at 52.1 and that is a departure of +/- 0° so GR is now right at average for the month.
