Last Week of October

We had 1.51 inches of rain from yesterdays system in Otsego, many areas broke records for rainfall in Michigan:

If you want the forecast for anywhere in Michigan you can find it on the front page which includes all of the NWS offices in the state.  I also have a linked database of the National Snow and Ice Centers graphics going back to 1997 in the Snow and Ice Archives.  Below are the comparisons from last years snow cover… these maps I will use in my winter forecast for this year.

Looking at the CPC forecast into November:  we have a 65% chance of below normal temps in the 6 to 10 day and 48% chance of below normal temps in the 8 to 14 day outlooks.  Normal temps would be in the low 50s.

We will see the rain moving out this morning with the sun making its grand appearance this afternoon.  Our warmest day this week will be tomorrow with highs in the mid 50s – we will have several chances of rain/snow showers later this week as temps plummet into the low 40s in the Friday/Saturday time frame.  Halloween doesn’t look pleasant for the kids to treat or treat.

Keep your facts straight Jeff! No one has predicted heavy snows for GR! Get with it!

I think you need to go back and read a few of indys 40 posts over the past week. Some were “quoting” models, others are just made up.

How many times do I need to explain this to you. When someone posts a model it does not mean that is a prediction for how much snow we will see, it is simply showing a model depiction not a forecast! Get real!

Like I said, some of his posts were models, others were just nonsense. Read my post a little better.

1.64” of rain here last night. This October is looking very much like October of last year. Last year we had a wet October like this year. Last year we had a warm first half of October just like this year. Last year the second half of October cooled down and we had a couple days with snow, similar to this year just without any snow. If the trend continues we would have a cool November with some wet slop (which is what is forecasted) followed by a glorious December with close to zero snow extending into half of January.… Read more »

Below average? Nope, not so far. With the overnight low of 48 and so far a high of 54, that puts the average at +3 for the day above average.

Good morning. As you know a new record rain fall amounts around the area. Here at my house as of 7AM I recorded 1.53” of rain. That rain has knocked down a lot of leaves will have to see when it gets light out just how many. At Grand Rapids the H/L yesterday was 51/31 and of course 1.11” of rain fall. For today the average H/L at Grand Rapids is 56/39 the record high is 78 set in 1927 and the record low is 19 set in 1976. Last year the H/L was 48/37.
