Scattered Snow Showers

The snow showers we have seen yesterday and for today are from actual lake effect.  Yesterday’s snow was of the wet sloppy variety but luckily it melted away quickly so little or no shoveling was needed.  We picked up an inch and a half yesterday and overnight in Otsego.  The high temp yesterday was 36° with a low of 30° overnight.

At this point, there are no snowstorms on the horizon just meager lake effect over the next few days which may give us a couple more inches of snow early this week.  Overall our weather pattern will be fairly quiet this week with a chance of some sunshine on Thursday.

Colder air is shown to arrive from the north Fri-Sat in the wake of the Thursday low, but ridging should limit lake effect snow potential. In the absence of any exciting weather over the coming week, the thing to watch will be the potential of an impactful synoptic low-pressure system sometime around the 25th or 26th of January as several models continue to hint at this potential.

In case you didn’t notice there is a write-up of the Children’s Blizzard of January 12th, 1888 under the Strange Weather menu.

Pummeled by one melting tenth of an inch of snow after another. Just another above average temp and below average snowfall day. Soon be time to fire up the lawnmowers again.

Oddity last night at the GR reporting station. For 6 hours straight during the night the high and low was exactly 30. Never moved one degree, and yes 12 degrees above average.

There have only been 6 days the entire winter where GR has reported more than 2” of snow on the ground. It’s so unusual seeing bare ground and grass all winter!

Barry in Zeeland

Yeah for all the claims of a solid snow pack all over, one only has to look at the official snow depth reported by the NWS. The past several days GR has reported zero, zero, and a trace. Unless of course they’ve been hacked by Russians or somebody, those are the only totals that matter.

Rocky (Rockford)

Qanon just posted that GR has officially had at least one inch of snow on the ground for the last 143 days!

Breaking news…..I went cross country skiing all weekend long with absolutely pristine conditions! The trails were extremely busy as winter lovers were out in full force enjoying winter instead of complaining! It was a beautiful sight! It is always funny how the warm weather fanatics always try and tell me conditions are not good while they are sitting on their duff and I am out enjoying winter!! Incredible!

Snow report from WOOD, not so good to the North either:

“I wish I had better news. I checked out trail reports across the Northern Lower, Central and Eastern U.P. of Michigan. There’s no good news as all trails are being reported in poor condition.”

Since around Christmas most of the state of Michigan has had decent snow covered on the ground I know at one time we had over 90% of the state with snow cover on the ground amazing a lot better then last year at this time …let it snow let it snow let it snow. ..INDY

Barry in Zeeland

A few tenths of an inch of snow yesterday, but a net gain of zero on the ground as it was all melted by the afternoon. Today, the 18th, was the day some were saying would be the arrival of the polar vortex. What happened?
Sad write up on The Children’s Blizzard. Named because of the loss of so many children, sounds terrible.
