Happy Mothers Day

-Life doesn’t come with a manual. It comes with a mother.

When I was growing up in the 50s and 60s it seemed life was simpler.  We were moving from an agrarian society towards more industry, advanced technology was a transistor radio and color TV.  Our mothers allowed us to play outdoors all day as all the neighbors kept watch.  We had a mom-and-pop grocery store every couple blocks or so and every town had stores with everything a family would need.  Now moms have to teach their kids about stranger danger, drugs, and other dangers in life.  As life has become more complex for our children so have the jobs of our mothers.  A mother’s love, next to God’s love is a moving force to be reckoned with weaving a protective cloud around their children while teaching love, respect, and understanding.  Today we recognize our mothers with love and celebration for all the years they spent helping their children grow up to be decent caring human beings – Happy mothers Day!

We expect mostly cloudy skies today with a few sprinkles around the area.  Yesterday we had a high of 71° with around a hundredth of an inch of rain,

U.S.A and Global Events for May 14th:

1923: An early morning violent estimated F5 tornado cut a 45-mile path of destruction through Howard and Mitchell counties in Texas. 23 people lost their lives and 250 sustained injuries. The path width of the tornado reached 1.5 miles at one point, and entire farms were “wiped off the face of the earth.”  The First Baptist Church in Colorado City, Texas became an emergency hospital for tornado victims.

1990: Thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front producing severe weather from northwest Texas to western Missouri. Severe thunderstorms spawned seventeen tornadoes including nine in Texas. Four tornadoes in Texas injured a total of nine persons. Thunderstorms in Texas also produced hail four inches in diameter at Shamrock and four and a half inches in diameter near Guthrie. Thunderstorms over northeastern Kansas produced more than seven inches of rain in Chautauqua County between 9 PM and midnight.

Forecast Discussion

- Cloudy with sprinkles pattern ending late today

We have one final day on track of widespread clouds and
sprinkles. This is associated with a midlevel front near our
region that will begin moving off to to the south tonight. The
best chance for some sprinkles or brief light rain today will
again be down along I-94, but most areas should remain almost
completely dry today.

- A few chances for frost through midweek

Clearing skies move into the northern zones this evening and
usher in a cooler and drier airmass. With ample sunshine and clear
skies Monday through Wednesday, we have to start anticipating
some pretty chilly overnight temperatures. Right now it`s looking
like Monday morning and Wednesday mornings will both see
temperatures drop into the mid to upper 30s across some of the
inland portions of the area. Both mornings we will be at risk of
frost. The saving grace Monday morning might be some lingering
high clouds that keep temperatures a degree or two warmer. On
Wednesday, there won`t be any clouds, but a bit of breeze
overnight might be the thing that helps keep temperatures a touch
warmer than they otherwise would be. Those with sensitive
agriculture or garden interest should watch the forecast closely
and be prepared to cover plans if hazardous conditions become
expected.

- Rain chances increase late Thursday

The next chance for rain arrives late Thursday and continues
through Friday afternoon. First, a front will drive across the
area and usher in a reinforcing shot of cool air in the overall
northwesterly flow. An upper shortwave will have turned into a
closed upper low by the time it moves over Lower Michigan, so this
will keep showers in the area through most of the day Friday as
well, before clearer but cooler conditions once again move in for
next weekend.

Happy Mothers Day!

It’s a great day out. Getting some sunshine out there right now. Cooked up a big breakfast for my mom this morning. Probably grab a bite to eat and some ice cream later. Everyone have a great day!

Happy Mother’s Day! Four of the last five Mother’s Days only had highs in the 50s, so today reaching near 70 will be a treat. To all you moms – I hope you have a wonderful day. Thank you for all that you do.
