The February outlook for cold air from the Arctic is debatable at this point. We may see some bite-sized pieces of cold from southern Canada and there is low confidence of a polar vortex displacement. There is a hint it may spin more towards Siberia rather than the U.S. as I said last week. Models hint of a vortex split, however, I am not that excited this will happen (until it actually shows further signs of it really developing). What we may see is some troughing which will bring in some cooler air than we have been seeing as of late. We are seeing no big storms in the near term or the horrible cold with winds blowing off the lake bringing in heavy lake effect.
The clipper system predicted for the Saturday time-frame looks to be less impressive and may bring only a dusting of snow to the area, however things change as they always do in weather forecasting and we will have to wait and see how this all plays out.
Meanwhile, we stay in our gloomy cloudy pattern with little change from day to day as the sun eludes us and temps change little. February could bring slightly cooler than normal temps and of course more clouds and some snow with synoptic events. That said, as with all weather prognostics the opposite could happen just to show us who is in charge and we are mere humans trying to outguess the weather patterns.
It is funny to see everybody get worked up on here if it’s gonna snow or if it’s not gonna snow.. people like snow and people don’t like snow,I’ve been in the snow business for over 20 years, I don’t like snow. I make more money if it doesn’t snow, but I know it’s michigan and it’s gonna snow. It is funny to see how many people get worked up over it on here though. Mv and slim you guys rock, i get a lot of helpful info off of this blog.. it does get old of the repeat it’s… Read more »

Winter is awesome and the more snow the better! It looks like another great weekend up in snow country! I am headed back up to the TC/Boyne area on Saturday! I absolutely love it!
I am loving the looks of this map! If most of this is snow, we will be measuring the snow in feet, not inches! What an incredible pattern is shaping up! Bring it!

Wow! Amazing Great Scotty …INDY
LOL
1080hr forecast through March 15 – 6 to 8 inches. May as well put the snowthrower away.
Hopefully that is dead wrong and we see 6 to 8 inches next week and blow that model out of the water!
Wow! Some might just do that.
I don’t know if the ground hog will see his shadow or not on Sunday. My guess is he will NOT. But I have daffodil’s up on the side of the house. I have seen them starting in February before but not in January. They are about 3″ tall. If you have any planted in your yard take a look and see if they are up or not. I will put a picture of them up on Saturdays post.
Slim
February in a couple days and still NO sign of the Polar V ! The winter that wasnt 2019/2020. My shovel hasnt been used in 4 weeks !! Still loving this winter and the LACK of snow !!
Let’s all hope we get hammered with snow next week and beyond! Who wouldn’t want snow in MI in the winter?
There is a lot of unnecessary (for lack of better terminology) name calling on the comments on this blog. I know that each persona has his or her opinion as to what is their ideal weather is and each of us should respect that. As for the long range forecast well even today with all of the tools that are available the ones who get paid do not seem to have a better handle on the forecast then there was 20 year ago. There is just too much that goes on that can make things go wrong.
Slim
guess it is a time out for some – I am wondering if anyone is actually reading the post 🙁

I read it too almost everyday. I might not comment all the time. MV and Slim are the best. I really enjoy all the info you both give us. Thanks for all you do.

All signs point towards cold and snow!
You need to come up with something more original. You were saying the same thing over a month ago:
Rocky (Rockford)
Great news winter weather fans! All signs point towards a major pattern change. This change will start next week and then really hit the following week! Get ready for a Rocking good time! Cold and snow will rule for weeks on end! Nothing better! Incredible!

haha Busted! Nice post, Barry. He was also saying the same thing in October and November too.
Wow, just like that all the outlooks have flipped again. The blue is gone and the red is creeping back our way. Looks like our incredible pattern continues with no change in sight. Best Winter ever!
February 5th the snow and cold hits hard don’t believe the stuff below lol…. Mokiee will be missing in action come next week snow it down …Have a super Thursday..INDY ..
Hopefully it will hit as hard as the January 5 polar vortex you called for!
Great job and keep the facts coming!!!
Whenever you need a good laugh, just remember this: WOOD, Rocky, and Indy predicted a cold and snowy winter.

Ha, 100+ inches for the lakeshore areas? We would need about 4 blizzards an the scale of the ‘78 blizzard just to get close to that.
It would seem that most of the high priced computer models do not do a good job of guessing on how the Earths weather will react. But then again even a broken analog clock is right twice a day.

Last year on this date, we got down to -8 below and had a high temperature of only 2 degrees. And -30 below wind chills. What a difference a year makes!
We are now about 17″ below average snow on the season and about 12″ below last year!
Good morning all. I’m hoping we see some pattern changes soon. What I fear is one of these late winters that start in March and run through April…
If the clouds persist much longer, I’m going to put a full spectrum light bulb in the chicken coop (I brought in a motivational speaker last week, but the chickens didn’t approve of his fowl jokes), as they are refusing to get their tails out of the coop until noon these days.
We will be getting hammered with snow over the next 2 months! Get ready!
Proof of how nonexistent this winter has been!! Keep it ROCKIN!!

Wow – no winter for basically all of the country! Keep the facts coming!
Wow the CPC completely flipped to average-to-warm through Feb 12th now. I love it!
Let’s hope we see a snowstorm next week! I don’t mind all the clouds, because clouds could lead to snow!
