My son and I went to lunch yesterday at Applebees and one of the topics we discussed was how depressing the weather has been this winter. If and when the sun comes back out from the clouds the restless natives will either run away in fear or come out and rejoice with a large party and dancing in the streets with buckets of Sprites.
We also discussed the trials and joys of his job. He works for Paws With a Cause which trains service dogs for people with disabilities. A lot of work goes into the training – for more info, you can go here.
I haven’t had to change the forecast graphic in the last few days, just the date and a couple words.
We may see some sun on Sunday and early Monday morning, the rest of the forecast, of course, includes more clouds with a hint of light rain and snow showers mainly towards lake Michigan today. We will see warmer temps on Sunday and Monday before they drop to slightly below normal.
We are now entering the last month of meteorological winter and Phil the groundhog will come out and scoff at the weather people for their winter forecasts – so far Slim has been the closest to being accurate. My fear is that the clouds and cool air will last into May or the new winter will officially become February, March and April with record amounts of snow and cold – who knows? Why try to forecast a season in Michigan?

U somtimes post maps of like 5 days out I think, Bill always did them, what’s the site for them, it was like just michigan and it was different colored on them? T wasn’t like the whole gfs map it was closer to home? Can just anyone look them up or do u pay for them?
We could use more rain, it’s been pretty dry this week!

It never did get “sunny” here but there was some thinner clouds that allowed one to see the outline of the sun. Back to deep clouds here now with a reading of 37.

Yeah, very limited sun here today also. Just enjoyed it being somewhat brighter. Been awhile as we all know.
The brand new CPC for the second half of February has now flipped to warm. I love it!
looks like Grand Rapids for the month of February is right on the border line between equal chances and over 33% up to 40% of course that is subject to change. And there is a equal chance on the pricp CPC us really sticking their nicks out on that one. But that is subject to change as well. This could be the winter that did not get cold.

Bright out today! Filtered sunlight, but sunlight for the first time in a while. Perfect end to a perfect January, now can we get a 5th straight near snowless month in February?
Yes it is snowing out! There is a solid trace of new snow on the ground and light snow is still falling with a current temperature here of 31. And Grand Rapids will end January with well above average temperatures and below average snowfall. And there are now hints that February may be very mild as well. I still am worried that March and April could become cold and snowy we shall see. Also I have several daffodils that have popped up and I will post the pictures of them in tomorrows post.

Can you believe we only received 11″ of snow for the entire month of January? We are now 15″ below last year and even more below average!
This January will be one of the top 10 warmest in Grand Rapids history (looks like maybe #7) as for snow fall that is down the list as should be # 37.

We need a snowstorm! We have a Chance next week but right now it only looks like minor accumulations. We have decided to head up to snow country today to find all the snow and great skiiing conditions! You have to love NW Lower Mi – only a couple hours away and you find tons of snow and great conditions! Will be returning on Sunday for a the super bowl party! Rock n roll will never die!!
Wow, WOOD just dramatically increased temps. Not surprised. Looks warm to average for at least another 8 days now!
