Dry Weather Continues

Another gorgeous day yesterday with no clouds very little wind and (fairly) warm temperatures.  Doesn’t get much better than that for March.  Temperatures will cool down some with the passage of a cold front this morning this should bring cooler than normal temperatures this week with the next chance of rain or snow or both by Saturday.  Even this looks a bit iffy at this point as the models are now trying to move they systems south of the state.  There is a very slight chance of light rain south of I96 on Wednesday – the NAM is hinting at this but at this point it to looks iffy.

The CPC is guessing cooler than normal temperatures through the rest of the month.  April has a 33% chance of above normal temperatures and near normal rainfall.  Never fear spring is near.  The spring seed and plant catalogs keep coming and I am ready to start planting – I can almost taste the homegrown tomatoes already.

Old news from 2017. Winter long, Spring none…exactly.

We went for a walk today and even though the sun was shining it wasn’t as near as warm as yesterday. Tomorrow is the first day of Spring! 🙂

Get ready! Nothing like a cold rain and mixed snow! Forget golf and head North for some skiing!

CPC has temps completely average for the next 2 weeks. What happened to this long term cold narrative?

Nubs Nob is normally open til April. If they had to rely on natural snow, they would have shut down already. But the man made slush is keeping them open for a couple more weeks. But go ahead and keep driving hundreds of miles on your weekends, we all enjoy the weather here with zero snow on the ground!

Canonsburg has closed for the year already. Poor Rocky. Also, Bittersweet said they will be closed all week and don’t know if they will reopen.

Wow, I see more 50’s in Michigan today. GR already up to 45 degrees (WOOD had 43 for today). Another day where temps exceed the forecasts.

Hey Slim, with the end of the “calendar” Winter coming up, where are we in regards to precip, snow, temps, etc for the 3 Winter months?

Slim

Since the “calendar” start of winter Grand Rapids has had 52.9″ of snow fall I will have to look up what is the average for that time period but I think that is close to average. As for temperatures we will end the “calendar” winter just above average. Look for the NWS to maybe put out an official winter summery

Thanks Slim!

Grand Rapids has a pleasantly mild weekend with a lot of sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid 50’s for highs after lows in low to mid 20’s. It should be noted that the Dew Points have been very low by our standards only in the upper teens to low 20’s, Todays CFSv2 screams continued on the cold and dry side into the first week of April.

While the next 3 weeks or so look cool one has to wonder if it stays dry for long if that will lead to a warmer than average late spring.

Actually, the ensembles are looking pretty mild near the end of March. But yes, lots of sun, no snow, below average Great Lakes ice, warmer lake temps… all favor a warmer spring/summer.

What a warm sunny weekend! And it looks very dry upcoming. We will be below average snowfall for the winter in a few days.

“There remains at least a chance a storm system coming out of the Central Plains late in the week could bring snow or mixed rain and snow to the area Saturday but at this points a more southern track seems likely to keep Southwest Michigan dry into the following week.” NWS GRR
