Hope you all enjoyed your Christmas festivities yesterday. As usual we had my mother-in-law, all the kids and grandkids at the homestead which makes for a full house. With 12 grandkids we do have controlled chaos which goes rather well in our circumstance. My step-daughter who is the artist in the the family also makes stuffed animals. She made me a weather pig which is a large stuffed pig sitting on a cloud with interchangeable weather symbols which attaches to his foot. Pretty cool and one of a kind. I also received a new weather station which I hope to get installed sometime today.
We reached 52° yesterday with mostly sunny skies which, in my family is t-shirt weather. Today we will remain warm, however the sun will be hidden with a layer of clouds and patchy drizzle. Our roller coaster ride will continue with temps in the 50s today falling to near 40 tomorrow then recovering back into the 50s over the weekend. Our weather will return to closer to normals next week with perhaps some snow to talk about.

It is a beautiful day outside. I took down the outside Christmas lights because I would rather do it in the warmer weather. I put them up the first warm day after Halloween. Some neighbors were doing the same. In my daughter’s neighborhood two guys were cutting their lawns. Enjoy the day!

It is now officially reached 60 at GRR. Here at my house I am now at 62 and the sun is out. I went for a walk and there are dandelions out in bloom. In my yard there is a crocus while not in bloom one is popping out of the ground. I will keep a eye on it as if it blooms I will post in on Saturday. Also I seen a couple of flies out on my walk. This is one warm end to this December.

We are in the 60’s! All the forecasts were too cold yet once again. We are also obliterating the record high for the date.

61 degrees!!? That is almost 30 degrees above average! By comparison, imagine having a +30 degree day in mid July. That would mean it is about 113 degrees out. Unbelievable! Been outside all morning and the bugs and caterpillars are out in full force. Days are getting longer, the suns angle is increasing, and one day at a time Winter is ticking away.
60 here at Northern Kent County!! Time to go out and hit 18 at Maple Hill today!! INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL WEATHER!! Who wouldn’t love warmth and sunshine!!
Yesterdays run of the CFSv2 keeps it mild now into late January. It is now also 60° here at my house. I am going to go out for a nice spring time walk in December.

Seems very odd having the kids raking leftover leaves and cleaning up the yard during Christmas break. Used to be the time they’d be shoveling and cleaning off the driveway. Not so much the past couple years. Just astounding weather we are having!
While there looks to be a return to near average next week I still do not see any real cold and snow coming at this time.

I see there is a big temperature spread at this time. The latest reading at GRR was 48 and here at my house it is just 40 with clear skies. It looks like Grand Rapids will set a new record high for today. The current record is 53.

I spent last weekend in Minnesota with my family, where we had a early white Christmas celebration(sloppy, but white)…
I’m still watching the maps, and hoping for some changes in the ridge/trough pattern that might bring some of the white stuff our way next month…

Last week you promised no 50’s and probably no 40’s during Christmas time. What happened?
It was nice to wake up to 50 degrees this morning. Even Moscow had a green/brown Christmas. Record highs this week in the 40s.
