Another Sunny Day – Skywarn Spotter Training

Next Saturday is our local SkyWarn Spotter Training for Allegan and Barry Counties.  It is located at the Luella Collins Community Center in Shelbyville, I will provide a map later this week.  I will be there with hopefully Bill Steffen – and maybe Bill Marino who is in charge of CoCoRaHS for SW Michigan. It is from 10am to noon.  They have a very good presentation and you get to meet a lot of interesting people.

CoCoRaHS (pronounced KO-ko-rozz) is a grassroots volunteer network of backyard weather observers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow) in their local communities. By using low-cost measurement tools, stressing training and education, and utilizing an interactive Web-site, their aim is to provide the highest quality data for natural resource, education and research applications. The only requirements to join are an enthusiasm for watching and reporting weather conditions and a desire to learn more about how weather can affect and impact our lives.

I have been a Skywarn spotter for Otsego, Plainwell and Allegan for going on three years and am a member of CoCoRaHS.  There hasn’t been many severe storms in the area for quite some time in our area so there hasn’t been much to report except rain and snowfall totals.

Weatherwise we will see another sunny day thanks to an easterly wind but this will end come tomorrow night as we start another active pattern of rain and snow.  Expect a couple more days of dry weather before a storm system
approaching from the west produces a few inches of snow Monday night into Tuesday morning. This system will be a slow mover and will continue to impact the region with snow or mixed rain and snow showers (and lake effect west of 131) through mid week.

Any snow we get isn’t going to last. The ground has already started to warm up. Our cold, snowy days are getting far and few between. Spring is coming!! LOL!!

And it is forecast to be back in the 40s next weekend. Whatever snow falls now doesn’t last. Just the facts.

Trust me the skiing conditions in NW Lower Mi will be excellent by mid week and will last all weekend long! I can hardly wait!

No question that we have a wintry week of weather on the way. The GR area will be seeing synoptic SNOW, lake effect SNOW and lake enhanced SNOW! GR should pick up about 3 to 5 inches this week! Bring it on! March = plenty of COLD and SNOW!
