Today is the last day of meteorological spring which will end on a cool and sunny note. We end May with 6.25 inches of rain most of which fell the second half of the month. We had 12.81 inches for March, April, and May making this a wetter than normal spring. (these are Otsego totals).
Looking forward to June we have equal chances of above, near or below normal temps and precip.

The frost advisory for areas north of I96 expires at 8 am this morning. We have 42° here at 5 am.
I have my tomatoes, peppers and cucumber plants in the ground as well as onions. Actually I have some green onions ready to harvest which I left in the ground last fall for late spring, early summer eating. They are hardy and can stand the light frosts we had.
We will enjoy another sunny day today with cool pleasant temps with almost a duplicate for Monday which will be slightly warmer. Chances of rain increase tomorrow night as do temps beginning Tuesday as we approach the 80° mark once again.
Finally we have the pollen count for SW Michigan:
Boy, perfect day for the open house! Weather couldn’t have been any better. It was HOT out in the sun and we all got fried, but everything worked out awesome. Very unique having a drive through celebration.
Loving my hoodiee Weather on the last day of May this doesn’t happen much this time of year especially with under a month away from summer solstice it only gets better after that ahhhh …And that’s my cold bias troll post of the day have a good Sunday funday …INDY
I wouldn’t say it gets better after the solstice. Since temps lag by about 4 weeks that means the highest average temps are well after the solstice.
At Grand Rapids the warmest averages H/L start on July 3rd with the average H/L of 83/62 they stay at 83/62 until July 21st with the high stays at 83 but the low is 63 and 83/63 are the average to July 25th when it becomes 83/62 again. Then on July 27 the average H/L starts its downward trend.

OK now on the weather side of a weather blog. At this time it is sunny and 48 here at my house. It looks like while the low at GRR was just 41 overnight here at my house it got down to 39.

I watched the goings not only downtown GR but across the country the last few nights and I will agree with MV I also have sadness and anger as well. The sadness is in what is happening and the anger in directed on what is happening in the streets all across the US. When so many people (and I know it not the majority of people that are rioting) the rioters (yes I said rioters) have to understand that they are now becoming the problem. I seen both here in Grand Rapids and all across the country way too many… Read more »
I know that we’re not supposed to talk politics, but I think it’s safe to say we all should pray for peace, love, and unity. We are in the midst of some crazy times right now.
I feel the situation has become out of hand. I have heard that today there is a planned (protest) in Lansing I would hope that it will not turn out last the ones across the country the last 5 days.

Looks like another perfect and sunny day! Our daughters “drive through” graduation open house is today. Couldn’t ask for better weather!
Good luck and have fun today! Back in our day (class of ‘88 🤘), it was not uncommon to open house hop because most had beer. Ah, the good old days.
Yup, I was in the same graduating class (‘88). Things were a bit different then, but we sure had fun!
Congrats on your daughters graduation and open house.

On a positive note: I have always been a fan of the space program from the Gemini and Apollo programs on through the new Dragon spacecraft – yesterday’s launch was spectacular especially the landing of the booster on a platform in the Atlantic.
It was spectacular! One thing I’ve always wanted to see was a rocket launch in person. Has to be just incredible seeing, hearing, and feeling it live.
About ten or eleven years ago we were in Orlando for spring break. The shuttle did a night launch. We drove about halfway to the Cape and parked to watch it. We weren’t close but it didn’t matter. The horizon glowed when it ignited and then it was clear to see soaring into the air. It was cool. Very cool. Best. Firework. Ever.
3 years ago we took a cruise out of the Cape and while just a regular launch we had a great view from the motel and we were about 15 miles away. It took off at night and I will tell you that is something to see. A night launch is like the difference between a daytime thunderstorm and a night time one. And even from that distance you can feel the launch.

We were disappointed when they scrubbed first, but excited to see it take off. I was lucky enough to see one, like Mark, take off at like 1am in early 90s. Something I will never forget. I was in elementary school when Challenger tragedy happened. We had a sub that day and our sub’s daughter worked at NASA at the time. I just remember everyone being so excited since a teacher was going up.
So glad they docked safely this morning.
It is with both sadness and anger viewing the news reports this morning of the few bad apples destroying property and attacking the innocent. Peaceful protests are fine and guaranteed by our constitution – how does the violence make any sense or change anything for the better? A WOODTV journalist was attacked while Susan Samples tried to stop the madness. “A small crowd has just rushed WOOD TV8 photojournalist Bilal Kurdi after he approached them while they tried to break into an ATM on Monroe Center. People yanked his camera, pushed him to the ground and began to kick him.… Read more »

Certain parts of downtown GR are a destroyed war zone. Some scary videos online showing countless cop cars burnt to a crisp and many downtown businesses have been looted and destroyed.
