Weekend Snow Forecast – Wind Advisory

I have a new high resolution webcam here at the weather center up and running – I hope to have the images here on the site soon.  This is from my backyard looking north towards the Kalamazoo River.

We have a wind advisory in place for today for winds gusting to 45mph.  We will more than likely see an advisory for snow for tomorrow.  Southern Wisconsin has watches up for 5 to 7 inches of snow.  This will be the slushy, wet cement like variety and with the warm ground will be hard to measure depth wise.

Today will be warm before dropping off to near freezing – luckily the wind will still be blowing to keep the frost at bay.  Tomorrow night the temps will be in the upper 20s with the snow falling, if you have any vegetation you want to keep you can try covering it but the wet snow may crush them if you don’t have any support around the plant.

I have started buying tomato and pepper plants but haven’t put them in the ground yet – they will be going in next week.

For once, Rocky’s instantweather snow map seems completely accurate, not sure why he’s not posting it tonight???

Ellen echoes our local mets. They’re saying maybe an inch for I-96, maybe 2 for I-94. Regardless if you decide to sleep in late Sunday, you may not see any snow.

Planning on sleeping in late!! Want to wake up to the nice green grass!

I love the fact it is almost May and we are in a WWA!

They should cancel it for Kent County! What a waste! Keep wishcasting though, every time you post the storm moves 30 miles south!! Keep going!

Still time for this late April incredible snowstorm to shift north and nail the GR area! I say bring it on! The more snow the better!

Andy W

Thank God, this disgustingness keeps moving south! It can go all the way south to Hell where it belongs!

Per GRR NWS:

EXPECT THE HEAVIEST SNOW AMOUNTS TO BE CENTERED ALONG I-94 WITH A SHARP NORTHERN GRADIENT JUST SOUTH OF I-96.

WoodTV says around a trace for Northern Kent!! WHAT A STORM!!

Rocky how old it that map you posted at 2:20 pm as I was going to post that it looks like the latest models are moving everything south so that most of the snow (if it happens) would be south of Grand Rapids. Will see how the NWS has to say

I just looked up the snow fall records for April 27 and April 28. For Grand Rapids for the 27th the record is 0.2″ set in 2004 in 1992, 1953, and 1950 there was a trace. For April 28 the record at Grand Rapids is 0.9″ in 1926 0.2″ fell with a trace in 2012 and 1979. At Lansing for the 27 the record is 2.2″ in 1950 with a trace in 2004,1966, 1953 and 1931. For the 28th at Lansing the record is just a trace set in 1961, 1926 and 1920. At Muskegon the record for the 27th… Read more »

We will be ending the month of April with 5 straight days of below normal temps, with plenty of wind and then accumulating snow! What a winter and what a long cool stretch of weather! When will winter ever end?

Rocky (Rockford)
Rocky (Rockford)

Here is latest NAM snowfall map. The GR NWS is stating heavy snow is possible for GR! You don’t see that very often in late April! What a winter!

So many different plants to cover put nothing that is sturdy to cover with. Hopefully some of our irises will be ok since they are close to the house. Our raspberry plants have are starting to green, but those will not get covered too many and nothing to cover those with. I hope the fruit farmers can get through this yucky weather without much damage to their crops!!!

I mowed last night. The first mow of the season is the best. The smell. Admiring your great looking lawn after your work is complete. Every other mow the rest of the year is not nearly as enjoyable.
