Tolerable Weather Pattern

We are now entering a period of a more tolerable weather pattern with less humidity and cooler temps which are more consistent with normal for this time of year.  Skies will be partly to mostly sunny today as clouds decrease across southern portions of Lower Michigan. Highs will top out in the upper 70s at most locations.  The CPC indicates normal to slightly below average temps over the next couple of weeks which would put us in the mid to upper 70s.  The precipitation outlook is for below-normal rainfall which is OK seeing we have had a month’s worth of rain in Otsego the first week of the August.

Yesterday we had a high of 79.5° and the low was 67°.  Sunrise today was at 6:44 and sunset tonight is 8:55 pm, giving us 14 hours and 10 minutes of daylight.

Forecast Discussion

--Mild weather through the week--

An upper level low moving through eastern Canada has an elongated
trough that will extend across the Great Lakes region.
In the wake of a cold front moving south, drier and cooler air
will advect into the region. This will moderate temperatures with
highs in the upper 70s today. A warm up into the low to mid 80s
tomorrow and a secondary cold front will swing through Wednesday
evening into Thursday morning. That will again drop temperatures
back down.
Models have drier mid levels for the cold front Wednesday into
Thursday so precipitation will be possible but less likely.
Mild weather will persist into the weekend.

Anyone know what the best combination is for fall colors? For some reason I always heard it was a rainy summer then a dry fall but not sure if that’s true or not. Just curious because I’ll be up in the Porcupine Mountains and the Keewenaw Peninsula in less than 2 months hard to believe this year is flying.

I don’t know about any combination bit according to this piece, Dry/drought conditions = earlier color change and less vibrant colors.

What a summer! Fantastic and now a week of below normal temps and low humidity! I am not sure how it could be better?

We are now back home after our short trip to the Milwaukee area. I was surprised to see just 0.12” of total rain fall in my rain gauge. I thought there would be a lot more so all of that heavy rain in the forecast was really hit and miss. Now one forecast that did play out was the lake forecast from the Grand Rapids NWS for Lake Michigan. The forecast was for 5-to-7-foot waves. Well the trip back from Manitowoc on the Badger could be described as kind of rocky. That may be call a “big boat”, but with… Read more »

Tolerable is a good word to describe the weather for the immediate future. It’s been so uncomfortable lately with almost oppressive humidity.

60 here currently – just one degree off the average low. But more importantly, the dew point is in the 50s. Windows are open!

One did not have to travel very far to have a much different weather pattern this past weekend. It was hot in Ludington on Thursday and even Friday morning there. But in Manitowoc there was a mist and it was cool. It did get hot in Milwaukee. It was very hot and humid there on Saturday. And very humid on Sunday. But on the trip to Manitowoc it became foggy and cool and it was down into the mid 60’s there. I think we have gotten past most of the hot weather for this summer.

Hopefully we have gotten past the worst of the heat… but late August through all of September can still be very warm. I think in 2017 we had 3 days of 90s in late September.

I’m hoping we stick with this current pattern of 76-82 for another 1-2 months 😀
