Sunday Forecast – Perrigo Picnic

My wife and I went to the annual Perrigo Company picnic yesterday at the Allegan County fairgrounds.  I would have to say there were more people there than any one day when the fair is in progress.  One of the huge agriculture buildings was used to feed everyone and the grounds had carnival style games and rides for the kids.  Retirees like myself had special parking near the grounds entrance.  The event is so large there was security, county and local police on patrol.

Being a global pharmaceutical company it is strict procedural place to work, the company does have events for employee appreciation with the picnic the largest event of the year.  When I first started nearly 40 years ago there were around 500 people employed in Allegan – now there are easily over 2000.   Yesterdays event had easily over that amount with all the spouses and children there.

Perrigo has been around for more than 130 years in Allegan.  Between 1997 and 2013 Perrigo began a rapid expansion with acquisitions into global markets, adding new store brand OTC categories such as infant formula and animal health, and solidifying the Company as a global leader in consumer products.  They have more than 10,000 employees worldwide

The weather was good for the picnic though a bit warm it wasn’t to bad in the shade.  All the rain stayed to the north of Grand Rapids with slow moving pop up showers and storms.

Today will be partly cloudy with scatted thunderstorms during the mid to late afternoon mainly near the US-131 corridor promoted by a lake breeze off lake Michigan. Most areas will not see rain but in locations that do see rain it will be locally heavy. Any storms which form will move slowly and will dissipate by sunset. Highs will be in the mid 80s inland but only in the 70s at the Lake Michigan beaches.

Tomorrow night into Tuesday morning we may see a better chance of rain and storms which I will look at in tomorrows post.

At this time it is sunny and a warm 87 here at my house but just to the east of me there is what appears to be a very heavy thunderstorm and it is very dark off to the east and NE, There has not been a thunderstorm here at my house since July 20th and only 7 thunderstorms in June and July combined.

Wouldn’t mind a little rain…for the lawn…

Was dark/threatening…a couple of rumbles, a quick breeze, and 1/10 of an inch of rain. I’ll take it.

I love the looks of the cpc long range temp outlooks! If you like a near to below normal temp trend for months on end you will love it also! Incredible! Mookie will still talk about warm weather hype next week, even though the facts say otherwise! Who knew?

Slim

Telling us how warm it has been or will be is Mookie’s job. So to get ahead of him or her, all of next week should have highs in the upper 70’s to low 80’s with an 85 tossed in for good measure and lows in the upper 50’s to as high as 65. (did I do a good job?)

The 30 days between August 15 and September 15 on average has very nice weather in our area. It is just too bad we could not have that type of weather all year long. BTW Grand Rapids is still in a thunderstorm drought GR has only had 9 thunderstorms this summer season (only 8 since June 21)

Fall is one of my favorite seasons too. Nothing like a pot of chili on a cool day when you are camping.

way back in the late 1960’s and into the 1970’s when I worked at the Bay City GM plant we had our company picnic at the Munger Potato Festival. They would rent out the whole festival for a day before the festival opened for the pubic. The kids (and adults) could ride all the rides all that day and there was a lot of free food. When I got transferred to Grand Rapids well lest say there was just Hamburgs and hot dogs at a park. Any way I glad you had a good time MV,

As stated yesterday was a sunny and warm day. I have been doing some outside painting and I can tell you that gets harder when one gets older. Back when I first bought this house I painted the whole outside of the house over a 3 day weekend (Labor day LOL) but it has taken me 2 days just to do the trim work I have been working on this year and still have the west side to do yet will do that some day next week. I have a cut off time as I want to get it done… Read more »

Slim, good read yesterday, just got to reading it this morning. Amazing that ship didn’t sink and even more amazing it’s still in service! Never heard of it before.

Slim

Barry, there were two ships one was the Andria Doria and the other was the Stockholm. The Andria Doria sank but the Stockholm did not and the Stockholm is still in use and is now called the Astoria. Having been on many cruise ships I too have to wonder how that ship was able to stay in service for so long. The Stockholm (Astoria) is a small ship but must have been well built.
