As the title states we are coming into a quiet period of weather through Christmas eve. Yesterday we had lots of sun in Otsego and reached a temp of 32°.
We will be getting a new weather station next week – it was on my Christmas wish list. I will be disposing of another Accurite station, my second in the past ten years or so. I will be putting up an Ambient Osprey station which will hopefully allow me to post current and past conditions in a database here.
Quiet weather is expected tonight and for the foreseeable future. Highs the next several days will warm from the 30s into the 40s, a 50° reading is not out of the question – night time temps will be in the 30s. Dry weather is forecast through Christmas Eve.

Get ready for at least 2 weeks of winter bliss! Mild and no snow. Also, the days will soon start to get longer again into spring. I love short winters!

Meteorological spring is much closer than that. And average temps will soon be increasing.

It hit 50 here on December 9th.
In the weather keeping history of Grand Rapids there have been 86 years when the temperature has hit 50 or better at Grand Rapids. The last time it did not reach a high of 50 or better was 2009 with a high of 49° in the last 20 years only 3 have not reached 50 or better. So far this year the highest it has gotten is 48. We are now at the time of this shortest days and next week the days will start to get longer. So far this month the theme has been colder that average with less then average snowfall. This was just issued yesterday and all signs point towards a rocking winter with above normal snowfall! Mark it down!
Get ready to be just absolutely pummeled by one snowless day after another at the time of year we average close to an inch per day. Sounds just perfect!
Later in the day yesterday you mentioned that I brought about the chance of it reaching 50 before the end of the year. That was not my guess that was a write up from the NWS office here in Grand Rapids.
