Goodbye Old Friend

Yesterday morning we said goodbye to our old friend Jett, our companion for 15 years.  He was an Aussie (Australian Shepherd) who was a protector, grandchild herder, and soccer ball lover.  We had many toys for him however he generally only would play with his soccer ball.  He went through several during his lifetime.  Luckily our neighbor always had soccer balls which were slightly worn due to their daughter playing soccer through high school and college.  Jett gave them a second life as a toy.  You see many dogs play frisbee, Jett would catch a soccer ball in the air.  I would deflate the ball enough so he could catch it in his mouth and it would still roll on the ground.

This past winter was hard for him to get around but he still maintained his happy attitude and would chase around a cat toy in the house when I dragged it around on a string.  He got along with everyone even the cats and our other dog.

As he faced his final hours it was so sad as some of our other animals seemed to come to him to say goodbye, licking his face and laying next to him.

I would like to thank doctor Laura from Heaven at Home Pet Hospice who helped make his transition to the afterlife gentle and humane.   She comes to your home to help make the transition in familiar surroundings.  After he passed she made a paw print in clay as a remembrance.  Jett was unable to walk the last couple days but he remained alert right to the end.  As he slipped away I said this prayer:

Father, we thank you for the time we were allowed to spend with Jett on your earth. He was our friend and companion for many years and now it is time to send him off to You our Lord and creator.

He is now in Your hands Lord to spend eternity with You with a new youth and vigor, joy and health until such time when we can join him once again in Your kingdom.

We know our time is short on this earth. We thank you for the companionship of the animal friends you have placed in our care during this time.

As we grow old and run down we anticipate the time when we can come unto you with joy knowing we now have eternity in your kingdom along with all of our furry friends passed before us.

We pass Jett along into your hands, your love and your grace knowing he is in loving hands.

In Jesus name I pray

Amen

I truly believe animals have souls and they have a special place in heaven set aside especially for them.

Farewell old friend, you will be missed…

On the weather front we have some good news as we move into May, June and July…

Thanks for your comment and have you needed your AC yet this year?

For anyone who likes to use analog year for a long range guess Accuweather came out with their summer guess and in that guess they use the years 2005,2013,1959,2016,2018,2009 and 2007. They are putting extra emphasis on 2013. Of the obove summers some were warm and some were cool with 2009 much cooler than average. In their guess they are leaning towards a cool summer to our west and a warm summer to our east. BUT remember how their winter guess turned out.

Check out the drop down box for “cases per capita”! The Southern states (LA, AL, MS and Georgia) are being hit very hard, despite the hype about covid 19 slowing down in the warm climates! Those states have no business reopening their economy right now! They will be set back for months if they start reopening right now! The ignorance and incompetence is on full display?

I am so sorry about Jett. Our pets are family and add so much to our lives. It is never easy. RIP Jett.

As for the week or two cool down, I would think it was long overdue after 4 or 5 months straight of being constantly warmer than normal. Looks like the map above has us snapping right back to another prolonged above normal stretch which would make the hottest time of the year ever more hot. Doesn’t sound ideal, but if it helps slow the virus some then I guess let the heat come.

Mookie

Exactly! After 4 months of basically straight above average temps, some on here are really losing it over a 2 week cool down. Looks like another warm summer!

Sad news MV. I’ve had a dog my entire life until our last one which was a husky. We had her for 17 years when she passed. Been a bit hectic here the past couple days. My dad and step mom live right behind us, and my step mom had a stroke the other day. Of course with all the new hospital rules, no one can even be in the hospital to see her. She is doing much better, but with both of them being 90 there is now more to worry about with the virus thing. Then yesterday afternoon… Read more »

Morning Rocky! We’ve just been sitting inside working, don’t even know what’s going on outside! Lol!

Rocky (Rockford)
Rocky (Rockford)

I have been going outside daily for some exercise? Lately it has been dressing for winter and then going for some long walks!

Andy W
Andy W

Yeah, we’ve just been doing the treadmill for exercise, but we do get out for yard work and I’ve been doing some organizing and sprucing up in my garage, at the end of my home work day. So I have been getting some good fresh air each day. The temps have been good for working outside especially on the weekends. Another good thing is this is great morel mushroom growing weather!

Yeah 2 week stretch after 4 months of warm. Real incredible LOL

Slim

Yesterday was yet another very cold April day. With a H/L of 41/24 Grand Rapids tied a record for the low and it was the 4th coldest maximum. We now have 6 days this April that have seen a top 10 for the coldest maximums. At this time the mean for the month is 42.5° that is a departure of -3.9°

So sorry to hear about Jett. I know how you feel several years ago I had to do the same with my Cody and to this day I still miss him.

I am so sorry Michael. Losing a dog is like like losing a family member. Our little Yorkie passed away a few years ago and we still miss her to this day. I agree with you in the hope that we will be reunited with our beloved pets in the afterlife.
