Cold & Snow

This photo was taken out my kitchen window yesterday before the snow started to fall – there are five squirrels feeding on and around the bird feeders – they probably know the snow will become to deep for them to get to the feeders so they are getting what they can while they have a chance.

It is 4am as I write this – still a bit early to be going out for snowfall measurements though from eyeballing my deck from the window I would say about four inches thus far.  Temp is 12.5° with a feels like temp of 6°.  I suspect we will be in the mid teens through next Tuesday for daytime highs with nighttime lows in the single digits to -5° or less starting Sunday night.  Next Wednesday and Thursday may be our coldest days of winter as we drop to 0° to 5°.

Cold air has moved into the south with alligators freezing in place.  More on the extreme Arctic outbreak next week.  Storms and cold weather for Florida.  Ice castle parks in North America.

The first weekend with snow, and our kids school had to cancel ski club for this evening because of snow.

Probably because it was a school club and school canceled today. The windchill is really cold and the roads are slick too.

The wind is so cold. I can’t spend more than a couple of minutes out there. The next week or so is going to be rough.

Very easy snow to push!!!! As it’s get colder the flakes get smaller, I mean the snow, not some people.. Sounds like after the snow storm on Monday/ Tuesday, it’s gonna be too cold to snow, yikes… Could that be a thing, too cold to snow???

The colder the air gets, the less moisture it can hold, so yes, it can get to cold to snow. For example, at the South Pole it rarely ever snows because it is to cold. If anything, they get little ice crystals. The heaviest snow will always be when the temps are closer to freezing because the air can hold more moisture.

This storm will not be missing us to the south as some alluded to yesterday. There is still a chance the worst of the storm actually hits just north of us! Either way we will be seeing tons os snow. The only question is will it be 6 to 8 inches or 9 to 13 inches!! Mark it down and take it to the bank!

9-13 sounds good to me!

About 3” here, but there wasn’t much on the roads coming in to work this morning. Chicago Drive was actually blown clear down to the pavement from the wind. Everyone was traveling at normal speeds at 5 a.m. Since we haven’t had any snow to fill the ditches yet, I’m guessing it all just blew into the ditches overnight?

Sandy (Hudsonville)

Thanks. I have to head that way this morning.

If we get that much, that would be unbelievable. Clippers usually don’t drop a bunch of snow.
