Chance of AM Rain

We managed .01 of an inch of rain yesterday in Otsego. We now have 5.37 inches for the month. The temp reached 81° for the high and 60° for the low.  We have a chance of rain this morning from showers moving across the lake from Wisconsin before clearing out bringing sunny skies by this afternoon.  Our next chance of rain will come next Monday, then a warmup will pour into the state.  There is discussion of temps reaching 100° by next weekend.

Forecast Discussion

- Few Showers Today -

A shortwave will pivot around the base of a vertically stacked
trough early this morning. It`s corresponding secondary cold front
will sweep through Lower Michigan this morning resulting in
scattered showers ahead of the boundary. These showers can be
currently seen across Iowa and Wisconsin, with expected arrival in
Michigan shortly after 8am. Overall areal spread of showers may stay
rather limited due to lean moisture, so many areas may stay dry
altogether.

Conditions then turn breezy this afternoon following the passage of
the frontal boundary. With boundary-layer mixing tapping into 25-35
knot winds, surface wind gusts may reach up to 30 mph this
afternoon.

- Quiet Weekend Ahead -

High pressure anchored over the Central Plains will slowly move east
into the Great Lakes through the weekend resulting in prolonged
dry and quiet weather. Afternoon diurnal cumulus will be the
highlight of weekend cloud cover while temperatures gradually warm
from the 70s Friday up to the mid 80s by Sunday.

- Monday Rain Chances -

Southwest gradient flow will send temperatures into the mid to upper
80s Monday before an upper low sweeps into the area. A cold front
moving through late Monday into Tuesday brings showers and storms as
well as a brief break in the heat before temps build mid-week.

- Warmer By Mid-week -

An upper high will redevelop over the eastern CONUS by mid week
putting Lower Michigan in a prime position for increased heat. CPC
has all of Southwest Lower Michigan in a Moderate Risk of Excessive
Heat in the 8-14 day outlook. Highs in the 90s look possible this
time next week.

Spin much? We’ve had a warm May and a warm June and it’s currently been a warm July – with a warm August on the way LOL

The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 81/61 there was no rain fall but it was a rather cloudy day with just 27% of possible sunshine. The overnight low both here in MBY and at GRR was 67. There was indeed a brief shower here and I did record 0.02″ of rain fall. For today the record high of 100 was recorded in 1916 and the record low of 46 was recorded in 1978.

Starting off with a nice cool morning and a slight breeze. Got the window open right now. Overall the weather looks pretty good before we crank up the heat next week. My phone shows 4 90+ days in a row beginning Wednesday the 3rd till the 6th. That would be a pretty good heat wave. We shall see how that plays out it’s still a ways out. Also need to watch any sort of convection chances, clouds etc.

Yea I agree, we will need to see how much cloud cover develops next week. Reaching 100+ is extremely difficult in Michigan so I’d imagine having full sun would help
