Another Sunny Day

The groundhog sent us a rather pleasant day yesterday with another in store for today.  Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and other areas had record highs for February 2nd.  We broke 50° in Otsego though it didn’t feel that warm with the wind blowing.  We have clear skies this morning with temps at 28° at 6:30.

Enjoy today because as with all things good they will come to an end such as the end of the football season for which many of us will be suffering from withdrawal.  The Chiefs have proven they were the best team this year dashing the 49s hopes of a victory in the 4th quarter.  The Superbowl was fun to watch this year, the halftime show was good too though I am not much into J Lo and Shakira, I am old school rock and rock.

We can expect partly to mostly sunny skies today with the clouds becoming more apparent late and drizzle or freezing drizzle by early morning tomorrow.  Temps will drop back off to near normal Tuesday lasting through the rest of the week with chances of snow showers.

Another +20 degrees above average today, just missed another record high. The February departure from normal after 3 days is almost obscene.

The possible snowstorm is still on track! Bring it on! The sun has been nice the last couple days but the temps have been horrible! Bring on the cold!

Ok this is crazy. Check out the pic I took below. I went out to fill the feeders, and they are just crawling with bees! Not sure what kind, maybe just an average honey bee, but there are swarms of them on every bird feeder. Slim had daffodils the other day, now we have swarms of Winter bees?

Zoom in close to see them as they kinda blend in with the feed.

Back from a round of disc golf at The Breakers North of Holland! First time I can remember out in February, didn’t even have a jacket on. Just perfect out there! We went there because of the sandy ground so it’s a lot drier, and there were 15 or 20 other people as well. Unbelievable.

Lets hope the next run of the EURO is on board with the snowstorm for mid week! Wouldn’t that be great? 50 degrees and then bam a snowstorm! I love ti!

Just incredible weather we are having! Taking my son out this afternoon for some disc golf, has to be the first time ever we’ve gone in February. If I had one complaint about this Winter it would be buying new tires. I considered waiting a year, but I chose to get them this season. What a waste. Buy next Winter they’ll have over 20,000 miles on them.

Slim

The coldest it has gotten so far this winter is +7. If this holds for the next 2 months this will tie the winter of 1930/31 for 2nd place for warmest lowest temperature for a winter. In first place is the winter of 1920/21 with a low for the season of +8. Some other years with a mild coldest low are 1938/39 +6. 1938/37 +6. 2011/12 +4. Now while one can not say for sure but in the above years the following summers were all warmer then average with 1921 and 2012 both having a very hot July.

That’s what I’ve been saying. All things being equal, a warm winter should increase the chances of an early warm spring and a hot summer, in my opinion.

Well, winter is on the way out and there are still no indications of any arctic air – contrary to what two on here have repeatedly said the past few weeks. CPC now keeps us warm to at least March. It’s very nice to see us gaining so much sunlight and to see the average temps increasing!

Perhaps, this will be the year without a winter?

Slim

Can not say for sure but if the past is any indication (I know you have in the past say it has no indication) this summer could be a rather warm one. As for not having a “winter” this year we have had a winter it just has been a very mild one and very well could go down as a top 5 warmest depending on how February plays out.

We have plenty of time for winter and snow to get revved up! In the meantime there is always snow country! Snow country is in great shape right now!

Petoskey is 10″ below average snow on the season. In fact, six out of seven up north locations are now reporting below average snow.

Slim

Rocky it most likely will snow some more this winter and we still have March to get thru but for the winter as a while time is running out. While there is a snow cover in norther Michigan and in the UP it has been much warmer than average up there as well and at the Sault January temperature departure was +9.8°

I was just in Nw lower this weekend and while they are a little below normal in snowfall the conditions are Fantastic for sports! In fact it is more comfortable to ski and snowmobile with temps in the low to mid 30’s! it has been awesome up there and no change in sight!

It’s nice to drop the kids off and it not be dark.

Great game last night. Two very good teams. I didn’t care which team won, but I was happy for Andy Reid to finally win a Super Bowl.

Remember when WOOD had mid 20’s for tomorrow just a couple days ago and said the pattern was turning very cold? Well, it now looks like another above average day tomorrow and another mild week overall. I love it!

Rocky (Rockford)

The nws has been horrendous with their mid and long range forecast discussions! How many times this year have they said watch out in the 6 to 7 range for a snowstorm and then it misses us completely or we end up with rain? Horrible!

Rocky (Rockford)
Rocky (Rockford)

We need a snowstorm! Bring it!

In my opinion the halftime show was horrendous! The game was very entertaining and a few good commercials!
